Woman lied about her age. She consented. But according to law that doesn’t matter.
The daughter is the real victim here. The mom made up all this bullshite because she got mad that the court ruled she wasn’t fit to be a mother and gave the father full custody.
Also the daughter has the last name “Barnes” and has since I’ve known her. So how was she given that last name if the dad didn’t know of her birth?

Ok I get it. He is a friend of yours. That is perfectly fine and probably makes you much more educated on the actual circumstances of this story. What I can't get over or take you serious after saying this is "Woman lied about her age". Again, this 16 yr old in a bar was a kid not a woman. Your buddy was 30. Period. I can't tell you who is right, wrong, trash, or respectable in any other aspect of this whole scenario. I can tell you he is fortunate it wasn't my daughter.

The jails are full of guys who thought the girl was of age. That's not a defense. If you're 30 years old and still being a horndog in the clubs you deserve any misfortune that comes to you. Grow the frick up.
Add to that he's a real shite bag for coming after her for child support. Yeah technically a man is as entitled to it as a woman but this isn't a plant baw whose ex is a physician. He apparently has a steady income and context clues indicate she's struggling. Dick move on his part.

This is misleading/confusing. In her own statement given to police in 2011, she states that the dude knew she was pregnant. Of course, it goes to reason if he knew she was pregnant, wouldnt he know she had the kid? Did he assume she had an abortion? Or the kid wasnt his? Knowing she was pregnant, would he also know who she was and likely know her real age?? Wouldn't he at least know her age in 2011 when he sued her for joint custody? The point being, something had to have happened in 2011, five years after the kid was born, to trigger him to step up and go for custody, knowing he was also admitting to statutory rape by doing so.
As for what happened the night of the rape, the kid was out at a bar with friends. I know that the law says he is guilty of statutory rape, but when the legal drinking age is 21, the girl was out with friends not parents, obviously over a long enough time period to get wasted, its not inconceivable that the dude assumed she was 18 or 19? I am not excusing what he did (screwing an 18-19 yr old at 30 is fricked up in its own right), but I am also not taking the leap and saying the guy knowingly screwed a 16 year old without her consent.
What's REALLY fricking creepy is the child in question in now 16, same age as her Mom was when she was conceived.
