Anyone who doesn't have California in their top 3 excluding culture/food/politics is a liar and should be shunned. It's the crown jewel of the Western world.

I'd say Alaska, California, and Hawaii are easily my top 3

Never been to Alaska but California and Hawaii are my top two with Utah and Washington rounding out the top four. I've also been fortunate to live in all four of those States.

California has both gorgeous and some of the ugliest landscapes in the country.

I've been to 49/50 states, lived in AK, so I'm a bit biased...

AK
HI
Utah...yes, Utah...arches, monuments, etc...the snowy rockies, the salt flats...
That place is full of wonderment

The whole Colorado River looks like it's carved mini grand canyons all through the state

It has it all...but at a B+

Alaska's glaciers, mountains, rivers are superior
Utah's deserts, monuments, trails, ski mtns are superior
Hawaii's beaches, flora and fauna are superior...

The only thing Cali wins on are the super trees

You can get the same natural scenery in BC and Alaska.

Never been to Alaska, but hear it's beautiful.

Nothing landlocked belongs on a list like this.

I got California, Washington (State), Hawaii. Maybe swap Washington out for coastal Maine.

Of the places I've been.

1. Alaska
2. Oregon
3. Colorado

But I will say that there are some beautiful places almost everywhere I've been. Never been to Cali and only briefly through Washington. Pennsylvania and West Virginia have a surprising amount of greenery and are also quite beautiful in the rural/wild areas.

Truly beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Why, there are probably even some misguided souls who would say that Illinois has its merits.

Only been to Chicago in Illinois. Honestly, in my experience, it's not a bad city. As I described it to a friend, the crime situation reminds me of NOLA. There are areas of commerce and tourism that see very little crime, particularly relative to the crime ridden areas, with the occasional bleed over. And Chicago is way better at limiting the bleed over than NOLA.

I live in California, and the trees are by far the most amazing natural wonder. Not just the giant sequoias and redwoods.. there are just so many awesome trees everywhere. Joshua trees, manzanitas, sugar pine, bristlecone pine (the oldest tree in the world is a bristlecone pine tree at about 10,000' elevation in California)
