During the LSU game I have to fill up the generator’s gas tank 3-4 times. Besides buying a new generator with a bigger tank anyone have any ideas or suggestion on keeping it filled or easier way to fill it.

There is a gas tank cap with a hose that connects to an external gas can. Can’t remember the name of the thing. Google or Amazon it. Not doing your home work.

did you buy the cheapest generator ever created? The guy that does our tailgate has one of the lower end hondas that was a few hundred bucks and that thing runs for 12 hours (quiet at that) on one fill up.

Ryobi 2200. I didn’t buy it. I just help out and I’m stuck filling it up. We have a lot of items connected. 4 fans, two tv’s, sound board, lights. Seems like we are burning through gas pretty fast this year.

I’m willing to bet you aren’t filling it up all the way. Even with all of that our Honda EU2000 would only need to be filled up once.

I have the same generator and have not had the fuel issue that you’ve had. I go through about a tank every 9 hours. You might have the owner of the generator change the spark plug. The factory one is a cheap Chinese one.

You can add a external fuel tank like this one, it is shown with a Honda EU2000, but all that is needed for it to work with the Ryobi is the correct fuel tank cap.

That generator should be able to run at least 4 hours with that load on a tank of gas, if not you may have a engine issue.

Thanks for the suggestions. I fill it to the top everytime. We ran it for about 8-9 hours yesterday and topped it off 3 times. It wasn’t completely empty.

How much gas did you actually burn?

That doesn’t sound right.

I guess my main thing is to be able to set it up and be done with it for the day. The external gas tank is an idea but they run $130-150 . Not sure it’s worth it. It was great adding gas in the rain yesterday.

Here is a article on building your own external tank, was built from parts available at Walmart for $55.00.

I have a 6500, lasted for 12 hrs, two TVs, 2 fans, sound system, pump for margarita jug and a Crockpot or two.

Something must be wrong to consume that much gas.

I've seen it done. Buy extra gas cap for generator. Drill hole for boat fuel fitting and hose. Connect to extra 6 gallon tank. Prime bulb. Good to go
