SWAT roll closes few blocks of Canal St

NEW ORLEANS - The downtown side of Canal Street is closed between S. Claiborne Avenue and South Roman until further notice.

The closure is due to a SWAT roll involving a man inside of a building with a knife.

It is not believed that the man is holding anyone against their will.

The incident began around 5 a.m. in the 1800 block of Canal Street.

According to police, officers responded to a call of a disturbance and met with a woman who said her former boyfriend had an argument that became physical.

Police said the woman told them that her ex-boyfriend threw bleach on her and threatened her with a knife. She broke away, and he barricaded himself inside of an apartment to kill himself.
