Anyone know how much time passed between the first shots fired and when SWAT showed up?

Alright, tough guy. I'm not surprised you won't. Considering the circumstances. Considering that he was on the move, in between structures... No, it wasn't "easy." Carry on

Why? Because I don't think shooting someone at 100 yards is that difficult.

I'll give you the benefit of doubt, but your statement came across as, awe that's nothing, I could have done the same thing. Easy to say, it's not difficult. But in his shoes, when there's an a-hole shooting at you and killing people and at the time, you're not sure if he is 100% the lone gunman. All I'm saying is It's different than shooting at the range. Hats off to the hero. Easy shot or not. It ain't about you.

Exactly. The AR is the civilian version of the M-16. To give some perspective of rifle fire ranges, back in the 80's every buck private in the army was expected to be able to engage single man sized targets out to 300 meters with nothing more than a few weeks training and iron sights

Lol 300 yards

Not in that type of situation. You realize how tense those few mins were for those cops. Sure I can shot a rifle like that from 100 yards just standing there with no pressure.

For someone with even standard BRM training and skills, it's not that difficult. 100 yards is nothing when it comes to rifle fire.

Listening to superintendent of State Police, I thought he took one shot, with a sniper rifle, and put the guy down. Maybe I misunderstood. I think that's pretty impressive for a moving target at that distance, especially knowing the importance of stopping the threat.

It's not so much the yardage, as the one shot at a moving target, in my opinion.

Yes, makes me think the three officers killed had to be fairly close. He must have baited them in, I doubt he makes a shot of any distance with accuracy.

There's a million ol baws in Louisiana with the skill to make that shot.

The lack of big balls of steel is what separates them from that officer. Like someone said earlier, he drove up and toed up with an active shooter.

He knows what he's talking about and is a fellow veteran.

Those things complicate a shot. But anyone with even basic rifle marksmanship training should be able to pull it off without a great deal of difficulty. Might take more ths one shot, but they should be able to do it.

They are trained to be calm. They don't have the shakes like you would.

It shouldn't have been a tough shot for him. For you yes.

Long's carcass should be dried & salted and used for decoration.

Hanging him outside the city to let the varmints pick at his carcass would be a good start.

indeed it was outstanding work and I applaud him for a job well done. All I and others here (who likewise know a thing or two about firearms) are saying is hitting a man from 100 yards with any rifle is not difficult to anyone who knows what they're doing

This... I get people want this guy to be a hero, and he should be commended for the shot, but the shot in itself was not that difficult... Especially for someone who's trained to do so

Or do like me and not fire on the 300m targets so you have extra round for the closer pop-ups.

I believe I do.

I know there was pressure. But if they're trained on the rifle to any degree of proficiency, that shot is still not that difficult.

And I'm not saying that to take anything away from this cop. As has been said, he chose to run toward the sound of the gun instead of away. That in and of itself is highly impressive.

This sniper has been waiting for this moment. Champing at the bit, so to speak. There might've been a little glee in the aftermath of pulling the trigger.

Let's be adults here, snipers are trained killers, as they should be. So what?
