Looking to build within a year and really like some plans from Cretin and Sunrise Homes. Does anyone have experience with either of them? Good quality?

Really? I know it's hard to get serious answers here but is Cretin really that bad?

Despite my comrade's witty comments, both firms have been around a long time and have a good reputation for the slots they build in. Both do enough volume that they don't have to make as much off of each house as do smaller builders probably would in their markets.

tl/dr: Flip a coin, it's about a wash.

ETA: Sunrise was started in '58, Cretin in '88.

I've never seen a sunrise home that I like. They build cheap. I've seen billboards for Cretin. That's about it where are you trying to build?

Really depends on the cost of the lot. Currently looking at no more than $230,000 total. Hopefully 1,800 sq ft living minimum.

if I were going to build a house, and I wanted to get in quickly and economically, and I did not have a laundry list of custom features I had to have, I would order a cretin home and not look back

if you must have a home that is designed around you, they are not a good option. But if you can live with a standard model, and you own the lot, I'm not sure why they wouldn't at least be one of the options you consider. They know what they are doing, have their cost basis nailed to the nickel, and build quickly

I work at Cretin and for $230000 you can get a 2795 sqft living. Quality is good, I left another builder to go there and quality was definitely a factor. Also Cretin has been in business since 76 not 88. As for customization there isn't much we won't do, yes there are some things but not much. I would be willing to give you some references in Ascension, I know of two being built that would allow you to come look.

I'm sorry...but the name is Cretin

The definition of which is a stupid person.

No one thought it a bad idea to name the company "Stupid Person Homes"????

Well considering he has been one of the most successful builders in Louisiana I would say his company has worked out with his last name just fine. I'm sure when he started he just went with his name, he got popular and just kept going.

Wrong.

The State's SOS website says June 14,1988 is when Cretin Homes, Inc. was incorporated. Being in business under another name isn't the same (if they were).

It has always been Cretin in some form or another but it was passed down to a son at one time and the name changed legally. I think I would know.
