Summer camps for kids in Greater BR area

Hoping it is not too late already, but looking for some summer camp options for my 11 year old son this summer. He will be busy with summer baseball, but should finish up in early to mid-June and we have an early summer vacation scheduled late June, so really only looking for July options if possible. He is normal 11 year old that likes the outdoors and sports.

There is a real good urban camping summer camp in the woods right off the interstate and siegan

My youngest daughter was a councilor at Camp Istrouma off of greenwell springs road.
Seems like it’s pretty well run , clean and the kids have fun.
It’s a week type deal.

Second that summer camps are one thing BREC does very, very well at. Unfortunately, the big sign up date for many of the more sought-after/space limited ones like horse camp at Farr has passed. Would still check them out. They have a ton of great offerings.

Pay the extra $ and send them to Huntsville for Space Camp, they will NEVER forget it...

My 2 boys did Camp Istouma last year and enjoyed it.

The BREC site says ages 5-10. I'm in the same boat as the OP with a 12yo. I don't quite trust him home by himself all day, but I can't really have him at work with me all day either. I've been looking at several sleepover camps in the area instead of day camps. Camp Istrouma is one, and Camp Warner-Tully. I also have him lined up for 4-H camp one week.

Poor kid. OT ballers who love their kids send them to camp ozark. Imagine sending your kid to summer camp in Baton Rouge in 2024

Both of my kids really have enjoyed Camp Istrouma... they are older now but both still involved there...it's a great place and operated by good folks...
