I prefer Steve Harvey
I wear suits to work often. Light gray, Med gray, charcoal, checkered, dark navy, some other color blue
I have a black suit with a pattern in it as well but I rarely wear it

At least keep your story straight. It reinforces the point that you don’t know what you’re talking about.

It can be used in the formal setting but it wouldn’t be my go to. My straight black suit only comes out for funerals, and even then I usually wear charcoal

Moral of this entire thread. Wear what you want because it doesn't matter much.

The intensity of greys varies tremendously.
I think the poster has a grey suit, but isn´t aware of it.
I have two suits which are very dark, and some may refer to them as black.

True, but a black suit to me either means Feds or someone died
I have one that is not quite midnight blue, not real sure what the color is called, that makes the wife wet

A black suit, a truly black suit. Does it exist? I don´t believe so.

Hey look, now a third acceptable use of a black suit lol

As do I, but you can tell the difference between straight black and dark charcoal. Straight black is consistent the entire way through, even the darkest charcoal wont be

Did I say it’s acceptable? It’s just what they wear

Absolutely they do. Maybe not as common to see them anymore, but they’re out there

1. Cuffs and pleats are less formal. Cuffs and pleats are an American addition.
2. Cuffed pants must be pleated. Pleated pants must be cuffed. Can’t have one without the other.
3. A black suit (not tuxedo) is for funerals only.
4. A good basic suit should either be navy or charcoal.
5. A tuxedo should be black. Period. End of discussion. Peak or shawl lapels only. A notch lapel is not formal. Black tie is for uniformity amongst the party guests. It is not your tile to show up in a lavender or midnight navy dinner jacket.
6. A tuxedo can be worn with either a cummerbund or suspenders. It is valid to pick one over the other.
I am not sure where you are coming up with your rules. While some are accurate, the majority are just plain wrong.
1. Pleats are "more formal" - flat front pants are a relatively recent addition. White and black tie pants should have pleats. Cuffs are "less formal," but on a small scale. Neither pleats nor cuffs are an "American addition."
2. Personally, most of my pants, pleated or flat front, are cuffed. The weight helps the trousers hang or drape better. However, there is no reason why pleated pants need to be cuffed. Again, black and white tie pants are not cuffed, and they are pleated.
3. A black suit shouldn't exist, period. The only black jacket should be a tailcoat, dinner jacket, or stroller.
4. This is correct!
5. Eh, nothing wrong with a midnight blue tuxedo - just has to actually be midnight blue (the majority are navy or worse). I have a midnight blue tuxedo and it looks black in artificial light (Schoefield & Smith Knightsbridge 2748). In fact, in the 20s through 40s, midnight blue tuxedos were as common, or more common, than black tuxedos.
6. A tuxedo is always worn with suspenders or side tabs, and then a choice between a cummerbund or vest (low-slung, u-shaped or v-shaped, single or double breasted).

Haters gonna hate haha. I certainly have a mixture of pleat/flat fronts. But all of them are cuffed. Pleats go in and out of style, that’s for sure.

Nah. For instance, actual FORMAL WEAR (as in a tuxedo) will pretty much universally not have cuffs.

We talking about suits or tuxedos?
Pleats and cuffs are a more dressy (or maybe rather conservative or classic) look. It’s harder to dress it down than no cuffs. I think no cuffs is fine for almost any occasion and not a huge distinction, but I think that’s a fair observation.
As another poster mentioned, just make sure it fits and don’t wear beaten up accessories and you will look fine.

Just the general idea of the "formality" of cuffs on pants. I don't see them as "more formal" and pointed to the fact that a tuxedo basically never has cuffs as an example of why.
