These inspections sticker checkpoints seem to be occurring in the most crime ridden areas, right? Wait, no they aren't! How about setting up a inspection sticker checkpoint on Plank Road and Mohican and check for inspection sticker and insurance there? I am sure they could also cross check for outstanding warrants and bail violations. I guarantee they would be pick up enough would-be repeat offenders in violation for real crimes in a single afternoon that would show at least some perceptible decrease in crime in this city. The same goes for DWI checkpoints.
This is exactly how many people feel. Do we know for a fact these are not occurring in 70805? I am assuming they are not and are mainly in the "St. George" area where people will just pay the fine and not cause a scene.
Just an increased police presence in crime ridden areas will at least help detour it some. If cop cars are constantly riding up and down the streets of crime areas, you think there might be a slight reduction in crime? How about DWI check points in crime areas, not only would drunk drivers be caught they could catch real criminals with outstanding warrants or running drugs.
Just a thought, of course that makes me racist.

Something like this happened to me two years ago. I had to wait on a part (clock spring was on national backorder)from the dealer for 4 months and during this time my sticker expired. Got the part installed and drove straight to the place to get sticker and they failed me because the computer threw a code saying the battery had been disconnected. I had to go back in two days after so many miles.
A sensor is a little different that a cigg lighter. Nobody is going to reject your tag over a cig lighter. Don't be silly. Because y'all don't think it is important, doesn't mean it can't affect the car. A sensor can make the car run differently.

Statistics have proven that having an expired inspection sticker can lead to a lifetime of crime later.
If Bonnie and Clyde had been issued a ticket for an expired inspection, they would have learned a lesson and not started robbing banks and killing people.

Tell me about it my cruse control did not work the entire time.
No I agree totally, but what would I have done if I rolled up on a check point. Can you tell the cop no ticket please because Im waiting on a part from the dealer?

I've never seen them on the north side of town but I would wager that they aren't there.

The least these frickers could do is check for proof of insurance
That's not what the grants pay them to do. EBRSO and BRPD pull in off-duty cops and pay them overtime using grant money. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives grants to law enforcement agencies to run seat belt checkpoints.
Thanks Obama!!!

I didn't make the point, someone else did, I simply agreed with it and I don't feel the need to dumb down the point for you.

With the amount of things needed to pass an inspection it's tough to keep up on older vehicles and some of the requirements take few hundo to fix if they fail.
I've had the orange special slapped on my windshield because of a bad cigarette lighter. Ever since that happen I've had negative views toward the inspection scam.
Makes you wonder why they give grants to push the issue...win win for law enforcement and auto parts industry.
But I do think the EPA is busting a lot of city's balls right now on emissions.

according to the cops, the grants are to do seat belt checks, but they'll take whatever shows up.

Inspection stickers are such a scam/money grab.
Can people in Louisana put it up for a vote and get the law removed? Are there ANY studies that show getting cars inspections leads to less wrecks/safer roads

Go ahead and tell us how they are supposed to fix it. What are they supposed to do ?
more patrol and presence in the areas with high crime
actually the "broken window" theory would say that they should be focusing these checks in those areas, too (many people argue with that theory theses days, though)

As red a state as LA is, you'd think they could lose stupid things like that.
LA is "GOP red" and we're talking about urban/liberal BR here

Does anyone know how much money is made off of inspection stickers (both the fee and the money generated from tickets for expired ones)? Where does the money actually go?
The biggest and most obvious reason it's strictly about revenue and not "safety" is the fact that they only ticket cars that aren't updated and don't tow/impound them on site.
A car that's "unsafe for the road" can continue to drive as long as it wants as long as the driver is willing to pay the $120 ticket a couple times a year when you get caught.

Allow me to blow all of your minds.
those aren't inspection sticker check points.... they're seat belt checks
Unless the law has changed in thelast five years, one ccan't be stopped for an expired sticker... They can be stopped for not wearing a seat belt. Then they can ticket to for anything and everything.
A cat I worked with in industrial-plex never got his Bucket inspected. He also never got caught up in the siegan drag nets.
