re: Study shows that stupid people lie more often and are bigger liars

A big problem with this study is that the amount at stake was basically beer money. Intelligent people tend to make enough money in their day jobs that they wouldn't bother to lie over ten bucks.
FWIW, my junk is ten inches long and wide as a can of tuna.

Were the test subjects of all the same income level? An intelligent person is less likely to need a couple of bucks than an unintelligent broke person. They provided an incentive to lie.

Does it say what the test was to measure intelligence? And does it say what the cut off was to put people into each group?

Just because the probablility of rolling a specific number is 1/6 for each roll, that doesn't mean that in reality, after a finite number of rolls, each number would come up 1/6 of the time. Really, all they needed to do to make this a better study was to record what each person actually rolled and then compare that to what the person said they rolled.
Check the graph again and look at the 16.6% mark of the 1 in 6 probability of each number occurring. Then look at the actual reported output. With enough test(rolls) recorded, deviations from the known statistical probability will show, with a greater than 99% probability, that lies occurred
Of course people lied, it's just a terrible study the way they performed it.

Second, why were the smarter liars so sheepish about going for the maximum payoff?
Because they are smart and know how to lie without getting caught.

The study doesn't really show anything because they don't actually know if people were lying or not
Exactly. Smart people are just better at lying and don't get caught, hence it won't show up in statistics since no one knows it was a lie. Maybe in this test, smarter people saw no huge benefit in lying. But this is only one single circumstance. Doesn't cover everything for sure

Flawed study. Smart people are better at it. They don't get caught.

Confirms why I hold honesty as being number 1 personality trait.

That graph doesn't really make sense to me, but that's OK because I have enough money to pay people to understand shite for me.

the dice lied or there wasn't a 1/6 chance of each individual outcome?
Really try to understand, "what should have been the outcome vs what was reported"......no one was caught lying, just as groups, there was a trend in dishonesty that was skewed/biased toward higher payoff.(which makes sense in animal reward based studies)
