I'd add insulting to that list. It is truly discouraging that people at his level of experience that are decision makers in large companies think like this.
ETA: Could you post an entry-level job posting from your company? I'm curious.

Don't go blaming the Xers. We waited longer to have kids. These are your life crisis kids.

Do you realize how unrealistic it is to start at 20-25k with probably 50k in student debt out of college?
You take what you can get when you're just getting started out. Like I've already said, it's better to accept a job making an annual salary in the $20's with the understanding that with time you will advance than just sitting there waiting on a $100K job that's never going to come right out of the gate. There are no short cuts in life. You have to put in your time and pay your dues while you work your way up. And yes, that will mean there will be times where you struggle. And yes, there will be setbacks and it won't be easy. But that's just how the world works. It's been this way since before even the Boomers time (that's right, even Boomers had to start out at the bottom and work their way up) and it will be the case when all of us are just dust.

My favorite thing when applying for entry level jobs right out of HS.
Entry level job, 2-3 years experience required.
Every damn time.

It is ok. Have an unpaid internship with a slight possibility of gaining a real position at the end!

Xer kids are growing up to be worse.
My niece is 15 and if she is indication of what's to come from that generation. We are doomed.

I had an internship in college. $15/hr to scan documents all day long.

The larger corporations, yes, because they can afford to hire from a more competitive pool. There are ways of getting this experience - and no, not internship - but the fact is, most out of college won't accept that fact because they feel it is beneath them.
As another poster said, I am not worried about some millennial. My company - a very large and well known one - does get thousands of applicants. But you know what is even better? They reward and look for ones who put in the time to get that experience and rise.

think you should reflect on the bigger picture if you want people to listen to you. It looks like this:
1) The economic situation millennials inherited is beyond fricked up
2) The old rules for careers no longer apply
3) A lot of millennials simply refuse to play by those old rules, preferring to develop their own
4) This makes older individuals very uncomfortable
5) So they complain about it in the news and on the internet
Do you know how stale your "advice" sounds? It is terribly trite, and worse, not even true.
So you "refuse to play by the old rules" and don't even think the old rules apply to you. And yet Millennials can't understand why this generation is failing so badly at get started in their careers. Wow.

The unfortunate thing, Darth, is that they won't accept that.

I'm beneath nothing. I worked at Lowes in the garden center for 3 years during college because it was the most flexible thing I could find abd I made decent money.
Throw in a couple of internships as well.
My company lost its contract with Lowes in March. I decided to take off and focus on studies my last two semesters. When I graudated, I had several employers tell me they wouldn't hire me because of the break in my work history. After I spent three years with the same company.
Its a bunch of bullshite. I don't see how they hire anyone, honestly.

Yeah, I frick with you. But's just because you frick with me. I've told you before on here that I respect a young guy like yourself out working, making an honest living, and trying to do better for himself.

Xers were the smaller group of Boomer kids BEFORE Gen Y. Exers are now 40+. We were the latch key kids and products of Boomers 1st marriages.
