I don’t get it. Be my connection, but never send a message or respond to mine. Are all these just bots?

Meh I just accept all of them and if they are annoying unfollow them. Helps my street cred to have more connections. I’ve added some people that I don’t talk to because they post industry relevant content.

Depends on what they look like. It also depends on their reaction to a dick pic.

Social engineering. Potentially malicious to you or people you know. Looking to learn more about your job, if your contacts, your job, so they can more accurately scan you.

I have to take a class 4 times a year on this

They were looking for people that actually paid off their mortgage, not just people that roll play on a message board.

LinkedIn turned into "Facebook with a Tie" about 8 years ago. I deleted my profile in 2018-ish with 2500+ connections. I was in tech, now working for myself so I didn't really need it any longer. But LinkedIn was damn near insufferable beginning about 2014.

Yep. They boost your visibility if you have >30. Good if you're looking for a job.

If you aren't, make up an obviously fake name and change your job titles/companies so the bots can't harvest anything. Then you don't have to build from scratch if you want to change jobs.

Those are:
1. Recruiters who will wait until they have a job listing where you match 1 of 10 requirements.
2. MLM operators who wanted to talk to you about franchising opportunities, but then realized they’re involved in a pyramid scheme.

3. People boosting their business through adding potential clients without actually calling on them directly yet. As a startup owner, I’ve put our business on the map with LinkedIn.

I used to add them, too; without knowing them (complete strangers). One day I realized that these "connections" did not do sh!t for me, none whatsoever. So I started ignoring all requests.

In the last 7 or 8 years, I have been able to land 2 jobs via LinkedIn Jobs, so that's the place where to go if you are looking for connections or a job.
