What?
Sure trucks have gotten bigger but also lower over the years in the name of fuel economy. Most trucks off the lot sit almost comically low, especially Ram.

It's highly impractical because the tailgate has to actually be down and a step must be extended and folded out.
A step bumper would both functionally superior and vastly more simple.

Doesn't make Ford's man step any less stupid.

Reminds me of Bud Light's "Don't fruit the beer" Manlaw commercial. Then they come out with this a while later:

That commercial ten years ago was foul.
Howie Long belittling some guy about leaving his "man step" up.

Y’all act as if it’s some act of God to use the damn thing. It takes 5 secs to deploy the step. I’m not old and I use it all the time.

How many centimeters of knee-raising does it save you?
Do you hike your skirt first?

People who say the aluminum bed sucks must not have one. My truck is 3 years old
And doesn’t have a dent in it, scratches yes. Gm I believe will have a composite bed soon; aluminum outer fenders andsteel inner wells and floor.
I wonder how long until the handle breakes on the latch on the new Chevy tailgate

10 years ago it wasn’t popular as it is today for men to be pussies. GM is just hopping on the bandwagon.

My F-150 is almost 5 years old. It has the step feature in the tailgate. I deployed it once to see how it worked. Haven’t used it since.

We have an f150 at work and my coworker uses a ladder to get in and out of the back. it looks silly but yet hes in his 70s.

Some GMs have a carbon fiber bed. It’s not a cheap plastic type composite like what’s used on the Tacoma.

I've never owned a truck with the tailgate step, but I see the utility of it.
Climbing in & out of a truck bed with the tailgate down will make you realize how tall they are. Especially when wearing jeans & boots and doing something like loading firewood.

My dad and I watched this commercial last night and asked each other when is the last time you actually got into the bed of your truck. Both feet standing up in the bed of your truck. I cant remember, so why do I need a step to make it easier to do so. I have a GMC with the step bumper and that's all you really need.

Apparently you don’t use a truck for it’s actual purpose. When I’m loading and unloading it makes it a shitload easier.

Work vans have been using step bumpers for decades. I can’t believe it took that long for someone to incorporate it into a pickup. It’s simple and works great.
They got rid of step side beds a while back. I’d like to see a step incorporated into the bed side forward of the rear axle.

How is it gimmicky?! Seems Like a pretty simple setup to me & I don’t even own a Ford. The GM bumper steps are simple enough but kinda useless cause most truck bumpers are 5 ft off the ground these days. The new GM tailgate step is overly complex and ridiculous as the commercial.
If you’re so old or short that you can’t use the GM bumper step then just get a minivan.
