Yeah, OK.
Let's see, the point of college is to get out of it with good grades.
Mission accomplished. Was it not?
It was an English class. You were going to have to write essays. Most the time you get to pick the subject matter. Even when you don't, you can still slant it in any direction you want. Extolling the false virtues of socialism, while disgusting to me, isn't that hard to do. It's like writing crappy fiction. Karl Marx garnered millions of followers with his essays of fantasy.

The exact date isn’t important, I can look that shite up later. Ask me about the importance of the event in history and where it fits chronologically with other events. But truth be told, it also has a lot to do with lazy teachers. It is a hell of a lot easier to design a “what was the date of event X” exam than it is to design an exam that tests real knowledge.

I had one professor in English who had a mohawk. That was pretty interesting. He was a really cool guy who I believe had a doctorate in chemistry before deciding to become an English professor.
I had another English professor whose name was Liberty. He was a cool guy, I saw him at Stan's one night while I was in his class. He was definitely slaying students.
That's all I remember, not too "weird" I guess.

My very first class in college...we only had a final and the prof got made at the administration over something (conflict with syllabus schedule or something)...so for the final the prof brought in pizza. If you ate two pieces you got an A. It was a small summer class...

Early 80's. Chemistry. Had a professor that came into class one day, did not say a word, but breathed slowly in and out of a harmonica as he gazed around the room. Eventually we all walked out. Never saw him again but heard they rousted him off the drill field as he sang to birds. Mental case.

Not so much a weird professor as just a weird class in general. My first semester I found myself in an honors western civ class. Instead of 300 of us in a lecture hall, there were 5 of us sitting around a table: a guy who smelled bad and always wore a beret, a flamboyantly gay guy, a black girl who played volleyball, a relatively normal white girl, and me. The professor was a little eccentric but not off the scale.
His lesson plan was to just ask if we had any questions about the readings. I guess he imagined a free wheeling discussion would take off from there, but it didnt work that way. Gay guy used any excuse to talk about his gay exploits. Stinky guy, who was a reptile enthusiast, did the same about snakes. The rest of us rarely said anything. After a few, weeks the professor gave up on the class, assigned us a couple of papers and that was it.

At LSU I had an Indian (dot not feather) professor who would say goddamn in every sentence he uttered. It was a class that focused on anatomy of the vocal mechanism, so his lectures would go something like "First you see the goddamn transitive muscle joined to the goddamn larynx. Goddamn study this, because the test is goddamn hard."
I don't know if its something he picked up when he learned English, or if he thought it was a cool thing to do later on, but it kept us riveted seeing how many times he could fit goddamn in one sentence.

Had a business writing professor with a similar attitude. Stoner hippie type from Mississippi. It was a Tuesday/Thursday class that only met on Tuesday for about 30 minutes. Your grade was based on class participation and turning in writing assignments that were not graded, just corrected.
Easiest class I have ever taken.
Craziest professor was a hideous feminist cat lady who hated men. On two separate occasions during the semester she asked a guy to leave the class because she caught him "inappropriately" looking at a woman. The classes consisted of bashing anything related to men, sports, and the university. Only professor I've ever gone to a Dean about. I can't imagine what kind of zealot she's become in these times. This was early 2000s. If feminism had suicide bombers, she'd be one of them.

My freshman year (I think it was maybe an English Class), dude was sitting in the back of the class bitching about the professor being late. After about 15 minutes and the professor didn't show, we all left. Next meeting, the dude that was bitching about the professor being late revealed that he was the professor. Subsequent semester I heard that he taught the entire first day in a Gorilla suit. Weird dude, but fun class and easy A.

One of the strangest professors I had in college was one weirddddd duude. I don't remember his real name but everyone called him Professor "X". He was paralyzed so he was in a wheelchair. He was super smart and it seemed like he always knew what you were thinking. When he taught, he always painted a pictured as if you were actually there. But like I said really strange dude

I was an accounting major for two semesters at South. Took Micro and got a C and then took Macro the next semester with the same professor. Halfway through the semester the professor got popped for kiddie porn. So.. more fricked up than strange.
CSB: They ended up assigning grades to everyone and I got a B. I would have never gotten a B on my own.
Oh and the professor was an Auburn grad.
ETA: Also had a philosophy professor who was an Ole Miss grad. Dude sounded and looked like he had hopped off the combine and came to class. He told us several times that he'd rather be farming.

I told this story on here a few weeks ago, but it's hilarious and worth another tell in this thread.
Had a professor who came to class in his pajamas every 8 am and told us first day of class that we would get advance warning of pop quizzes if we saw him climbing in the window (class was on the second floor) sure enough a few weeks into class that son of a bitch propped a ladder against the building and proceeded to come into the class via the window.
He was a real weirdo. Nice guy , but weird.

too bad, because that format works with interested students who do the readings. but that's why the format is usually reserved for an upper-level or graduate seminar than a survey (even an honors survey).

Had one lady professor who definitely marched to a different beat. She was a skinny young woman from South Africa. Thick accent and not very attractive. We might have been her first college class ever and maybe her last. Said she did not believe in giving tests or grades because students become more obsessed with their letter grade rather than the content. She made it clear not to worry about any tests. Just relax and learn. She would bring bubble gum to class. She would ask questions and fire a piece of gum at whoever answered it correctly. Other professors caught wind that she was not giving written tests. So for the final she was forced to give one but told the class not to worry about it.
Took a business elective where we had no exams or quizzes. The only thing I think we were ever graded on were a couple of short writing assignments
We spent the day talking about retail-related articles the professor found in the newspaper, and at the end of the semester (May), he came dressed as Santa.
Another class I took was a political science elective based around politics in Southern states. It was a 4,000 level class, and I was the only non-political science major in there. That aside, the whole class was pretty much devoted to proofreading and reviewing a book the professor was trying to get published. Just a really quirky guy. Came to class everyday wearing a Hawaiian shirt and shorts. Had a listing of his top 100 films of all time on his website.
When I was at a community college, I took US Government with an actual professor who I was pretty sure was terrified of public speaking and/or OCD. Everyday, without fail, he would walk in the classroom about 5 minutes early, touch the doorknob, then walk out.
When he would give his lecture, he constantly stared at the back wall never looking at any of the students.
He had these pet phrases that he would deliver 20-30 times per lecture.
"eh eh eh eh, when you get right down to it..."
"HENCEFORTH AND CONSEQUENTLY"

Donald Hanks, philosophy prof at UNO. Went into 10-15 tangents for every lecture, but his tangents were interesting as hell. Despite his lack of focus, was an entertaining lecturer that you really learned things from, even if they didnt directly relate to the class topic. Also had a great sense of humor.
He was strange, but in a good way.
Passed away recently. RIP

We're obsessed with testing in America because we're a numbers-driven culture but learning and intelligence are difficult to measure with numbers so we often miss the mark with education.
Then why do so many other countries send their students to the USA for education?
