I saw a documentary on a family that collected and sold art in the 60s and 70s in NYC as a hobby. They once owned a Warhol Brillo Box which they used as a kids play toy and a coffee table. Its last auctionprice was over $3m. Some people buy boxes, others buy cars.

It's gotten crazy.

The market for all those '60s muscle cars is gonna take a dive in the next 10 years or so because it's mostly boomer money chasing them and driving the prices up.
Someone that was 20 years old in the late 1960s is now into their 70s.

It's a rare, one-of-a-kind car so it's obviously going to be valuable to a collector. The fact that the author of the article doesn't think that being the only car with that particular exhaust is a big deal in the context of car collecting is all that needs to be said.

Dumb article. The author is purporting to be some grand arbiter of what prices should be justified by rare vintage cars, when in reality that is a totally subjective question.
$770k is a lot of money to your average Joe, but there are people who can piss that much money away in a weekend and never miss it. It's hard for people to empathize with that (except for the ballers here on the OT), but money doesn't mean the same thing to everyone.
