Weed today is not the weed from the seventies.

Excuse my ignorance, because my knowledge of weed is zero. I am 54 and have never smoked it, eaten anything laced with or anything. I am not anti weed I was just never really interested in it. Why is weed so much stronger now? Growing methods? New Hybrid varieties?

I don’t know if actual buds are stronger. The medical strains they sell tend to be quite mild.

Where people might be running into issues it with vape pens and edibles that have a higher concentration in a smaller amount. And if you rip a vape like a joint it’s insta high.

Edibles take longer and so someone might be like I can take another I’m not even high, then boom.

Yeah, mostly.
Like some here I have smoked since I was 15, and I’m now late 40s… it is definitely stronger but edibles are a whole different bag. They hit you like a freight train, not a huge fan.

This is false. Medical was legal in California in 1996. I was getting dank as buds in hs in the early 2000s.

Some of the medical strains they sell has low thc.

Guarantee it’s mostly edibles I have a pretty high tolerance/thorough history with marijuana but edibles will frick you up and I think a lot of boomers might not realize that

This times a hundred. I did 125 mgs last night and I actually told myself when I laid down that it would only be about two hours before I started to come down. I haven’t had to do that in a long, long time. I did 50 mgs tonight and that seems fine. Just hits differently in my age. 11 hydroxy metabolite isnt a joke.

I remember Seth Rogen, Snoop, Redman and Willie Nelson all saying it was the only time they felt like they were going to die.

They went from growing low grade THC cannabis in the ditches in California and Mexico more akin to hemp than what we know today as “weed” to full breeding farms with hydroponic nutrition and generational gene selection resulting in high concentrations of THC and terps.

Due to this great breeding and selection you can get very specific about what type of high you want. I got for 12-16% THC indica dominant hybrids with Mycenae as the dominant terp.

But for boomers who don’t know any better Louis CK said it best:

You used to be able to just smoke a joint for a while. Now you take one hit and you go insane.

It's the difference between beer and moonshine. THC levels from weed in the 60's and 70's (and likely the 80's) were around 1%. Back then they likely crushed everything up into their bags (leaves and stems) further diluting the THC level of a given joint.

Today, THC levels can get up to 50% (and that's not including oils, which can be up in the 90% range).

This jump in THC is a problem as continued use of high potency weed like this causes manic behavior (proven through countless studies and meta studies) yet the philosophy many have is still as if it were the weed from Woodstock.

I've gone through a .5g vape cart in 8 hours, easily. Some just have high tolerances, I've always had a very high tolerance for weed.

So 124mgs to be exact. I am on 50 at the moment and could go up, but I am not going to.

My gummies come in 25 mgs a pop.

That just seems crazy to me. I eat 2.5 if I need a boost during the day and 5 if I’m goin out. 10 if I want to get stoned.

The thought of eating 10x that is just crazy to me. I feel like I’d have a terrible time.

No judgement. It just sound like alot lol

Yup, those are not high numbers for many. I know some folks who eat 250 at a time. Tolerance builds fast with edibles.

For crying out loud I watch Joey Diaz’s large butt eat 500 like it’s nothing.

It all has to do with metabolizing it. Some metabolize it very efficiently and some need more.

It in all honesty it disturbed me some. Remember, I said up there I had to tell myself it would come down in about two hours.

I find with edibles once they peak about two hours in at that point…if you are battling anxiety, remember that in about two hours you will slowly start to come down. I am not saying you won’t be high or passed out, just not so anxious. Most people spiral out of control in that peak. Just breath and you will come down.

The worst side effect for me when I overdo edibles is chest pain and the chain of thoughts that keep coming telling me this is the big one. I just pace the floor and do some deep breathing until it passes. But there are some moments of terror you occasionally have to talk yourself through.

If it’s even weed for some people in the country. We are in grow season for outside in the west coast right now. In the summer months the east coast is smoking sprayed hemp for the most part.

People never believe that but it’s true. I can buy hemp so beautiful right now upon look AND smell you would not be able to tell the difference.

I could tell you it’s Jack Herer and you wouldn’t know upon inspection.
