STG - What's it mean for average homeowner

What will change for the average homeowner in STG if it passes. Won't all the services we have now stay the same (Sewer/water, electricity, Garbage collection, etc.) Will they create their own police force or will we still use BR police and sheriff? So property taxes will stay that same at least for the first year but will go up after that? There are not enough schools in STG to accommodate the current student population, will they still get to attend schools in BR like BRHS? What else will change?

Will St. George be a gated community. That would be cool if they had like Gates at different entrances with Rent a Cops that didn't let less desirables in. Frick it, go all out with this thing.

Better public services and better schools. Long term viability for East Baton Rouge by keeping more of the tax base within its borders.

Oooooh so they ARE willing to pay more taxes for public services rendered by the government? But only when they feel like it goes to THEM and no one else. Glad my suspicions have been confirmed.

Their problem with the current school system is that they keep getting more and more money and showing the same results. The complaints from those in St. George is that the administration is largely unaccountable and that there aren't nearly enough schools in the south and east parts of the parish (the only public high school in the proposed area is Woodlawn). They oppose more money for an unaccountable system that gives them few benefits.
When they offered an olive branch to the new administration, where they would drop any future incorporation efforts in exchange for more schools and some road improvements, the mayor's office told them to pound sand. That's why we're back at another petition.
The people are willing to pay more if they actually have some kind of expectations of benefits. They've been sold empty promises time and time again with the EBRPSS, pay more and more in taxes, and continue to see no more schools built in their neighborhoods, forced bussing (though this has been greatly reduced the last few years but still remains in St. George due to the lack of schools), and a complete lack of discipline or accountability within the schools themselves.
They are willing to put up more money if they get a shot at change. They are not willing to give more money to the people who have already lied to them over and over and over again. They deserve the chance to decide for themselves.
Seriously, if everyone in the greater BR area was given the option to pay a tax for 10 years that would 100% build a new bridge in the next 5 years and complete a full northern and southern loop in 10, you don't think they'd take it? If they know their money is actually going to go towards something needed or something that works, they will gladly pay.
We have one of the best library systems in the nation. People keep approving the tax renewals for it because they actually see the results. We see a really great library that offers tons of useful services and programs. If our libraries were crap, we wouldn't support them.
Give the people even slightly competent service, and they'll be willing to help pay to improve it. Give them crap over and over again, and they'll cut your funding just to spite you. Improve or die.

SG the city passes and sewer, ester, fire, police protection(from sheriff) and taxes all remain the same.
SG the ISD passes, that's way down the road, there will be more changes depending on demand (students).
Taxes would remain the same, but there's a good chance a tax would have to be passed to increase the money available for schools.

Water is through Baton Rouge Water company and Electrcity is through Entergy. That will not change unless the companies sell to other companies.
City would have to provide services for garbage and sewer like Central, Baker, and Zachary does.
Garbage contract you can piggy back on the existing one or bid it out. What we pay we can do a lot better bidding it out as 87,000 people is a lot of potential customers. Landfill all EBRP residents pay for this.
Sewer probably remain the same just city of st George will contract out the repairs.
City Roads (Roads in the subdivision) will probably be contracted out to repave similar to what dpw does now.
City will also have to maintain servitude’s cutting grass around city property (sewer pump stations)and clean out ditches which we will probably see a lot better service contracting it out.
Right now DPW cannot handle servicing the areas they have to service. Pretty much they service the people that complain. The rest they just make them think they are doing something. Parish is just way too large with the existing tax base to handle what it has. We will probably see better services using the same tax dollars that our area puts into the joint BR& Unincorporated areas budget.
We would have to pay for patrols from Sheriffs or form or own dept. We might actually be able to have a fund to put more deputy’s on the street where some neighborhoods might not need a crime prevention district.
BRPD is a city police force and has no jurisdiction outside the city of Baton Rouge. I talked to a councilman unincorporated areas do kick in money to pay for BRPD and BRFD because the funding is mixed and BR can not afford to keep up these services with their existing tax base.
Fire dept we already have a fire district which we pay a separate tax already for. This would be the only dept I would look at making a city service. At that point the St George City Council would be over it versus fire district metro council is over. This way we could be like Baker and charge the fee we want if they ask our dept to service areas the BRFD lacks coverage (casino, Seigen lane mall, mall of Louisiana, Our lady of the Lake). If they reuse to pay it our dept would not have to service it and BRFD would have to cover it.
EMS, mosquito control, Brec, COA, and library are all parish services.

The proposed city can decide if they want to maintain infrastructure or not. Zachary decided to do this. Central did not.
