Not at all! I'm no scientist, but I just feel bad for him because he comes out every once in a while with "revolutionary/ground breaking" stuff to tell us, and then proceeds to explain why there's "no need for a god to exist." Really? He makes headlines because he's Stephen Hawking, not because he has some relevant radical shite we -need- to learn about that he has discovered. Idk, I just can't help but feel he's desperate to be more important than he actually will be viewed in long term history than he currently is... because his time is growing short.

I believe you're referencing comments he's made that are essentially "the big bang didn't need god" and him talking about his own lack of belief in god. Questions like this, about the relationship between contemporary theoretical physics research and what it could mean for religious beliefs, are definitely in his wheelhouse. And I remember there being a fair amount of speculation regarding his religious beliefs before he ever opened up about them (or lack thereof).

He's made a career out of popularizing science, just like Carl Sagan did. Sagan was better at it IMO, but Hawking has successfully captivated the public (in general) for decades. So of course he's going to write and speak about a subject like this.

I think it's amusing that you're holding that against him.

can you explain to me when the OT's lowest common denominator transitioned from poor black food stamp people to white republicans?

I honestly doubt you've ever read anything by him, but assuming you have, the fact that all you interpret is "there is no God" is your problem.

I don't care one way or another if Hawking is remembered as an all time great or not. I was just chiming in my two cents. However, Stephen Hawking is the one caught up on the idea of God, not me. I am merely talking about the stuff he's made pressers about in recent memory.

There has been a movie about him. He has had shows centered around him and such. The man knows what and who he is, and he's brilliant at branding himself and playing his role. Men want to be remembered for greatness. I don't blame him or fault him for trying at all! I'm certainly not calling him stupid or silly. He's a genius. There are quite a number of geniuses, though.

What I was saying is, he's already made his mark. He doesn't have to come out with things on eternally inconclusive matters like God. But like most greats, they never quit trying.

Well, both groups lack education, but poorly educated white people managed to stay poorly educated despite being far more privileged. That makes them the lowest common denominator.

That was the one. Yes.

I don't hold it against him much. If anything, I appreciate when greatness is esteemed as such. I woudl rather him KEEP that image by NOT commenting on the unnecessary.

Dude, he's a cosmologist. He's spent his life trying to understand the universe and why it is like it is. There are hundreds of religions that claim they already have the answer, and most people are on earth believe in some kind of religion. So yeah, big shocker, he has an interest in considering the validity of religious belief as it pertains to the existence of the universe.

I think you overestimate your ability to understand the motivations and mind of Hawking.

So you don't want one of the greatest living minds in cosmology to discuss whether the prevailing theory about the genesis of our universe requires a god to explain it?

Ooooooookay.

Like the other poster said, it's in the same wheelhouse. Its hard not to have an opinion on the idea of a creator when you're dealing with the theories concerning the cause of the Big Bang or the goings on of a black hole. He's stating his point of view, not advocating.

Blacks make up about 13% of the population, they don't vote, and not all of them are dirt poor. This "ghetto black" demo is pretty insignificant in general elections, especially when you consider most of them live in red states.

Older, uneducated, Medicaid dependent, poor whites? They have a yuge impact on elections.

They're both the least common denominator. The world isn't entirely broken into democrats vs republicans. There's more to it than political parties pointing fingers at each other.

I guess you are just ate up after 9 pages of defending him that you feel the need to belittle my opinion. Idk what it is about you that you feel the extreme need to defend a guy like him who will do far more than you and I ever will.

I'd dig it if he were more like the michio kaku guy. Present things as theoretical and fun etc. That works for me. Anyway, i don't really care about the topic as much as clarifying for you my thoughts on it, so as to why we ought not be disagreeing or fighting about something super irrelevant for me.

But, as a pro-tip, idk, maybe let people have their own opinions. I'm not discrediting Hawking, or it was never the object of my posts.

*edit*

Like... it's ALL good, broheim. I ain't hating on him. I just feel bad for him a little. That's it.

Im not a fan of Stephen Hawking. Im not a fan of many scientists, and as brilliant as they are regarding science, they are supremely over arrogant, and highly closed-minded about what conclusions they have come to concerning many other things, which seems completely to go against the idea of intellectual debate. I assume its because of their notoriety.

ETA: Just a general statement on Hawking, I probably agree with him on this.

No, thats exactly why it should be held against him. Its completely rational to assume that he has ulterior motives in regards to the "enlightenments" he bestows upon us regular stupid folk. We already have enough advertising and selfish agenda driven people on the planet. Does anyone say anything for the good of everyone anymore?

He's definitely no Sagan, but he's still one of the greatest physicist to ever live. I mean, we understand Hawking Radiation strictly because of him.

I'm not sure what him being a non believer in a god has to do with this also. Individuals who are deeply involved in science generally don't believe in a god, mostly because science heavily weighs that there isn't one.

I guess you saying trump is a 100% lock for president since the older, uneducated, medicaid dependent, poor whites that voted Obama as president have switched over to the Trump side?

I believe what the poster is saying is the same thing what most on this board say about actors/celebrities when they decided to give their political or religious opinion.

It's curious that you interpret my expressions of incredulity regarding your nonsensical criticism of Hawking as "belittling" your opinion. I think I took care to explain why I thought your opinion was wrong.

You're free to have your opinion. Me engaging you about your opinion and telling you why I think you are wrong is not me trying to take your opinion away from you. It's me trying to explain why your opinion is wrong.

Do you seriously have a problem with that? Because if you do, then I will definitely feel compelled to belittle you.

edit: vvvvvvvvvv this is me belittling someone vvvvvvvv
