Steinway pianos have a particular sound. “When one plays a Steinway, there is a warmth and nobility in the sound that is unequalled by any other instrument,” says Ukrainian-born classical pianist Emanuel Ax.

I actually attended an Emanuel Ax performance many years ago (late 70's?). I did not know he was Ukrainian. I think I still have the program.

What the OP-ed didn't mention is that there are numerous timber sales open in the Tongass NF. No one, including the timber company in question, would touch it. There is zero interest because it isnt profitable. The easy, cheap timber is long gone from that forest, especially old growth. It will take government subsidies just to break even, then there is the question of what they are going to do with the timber. The mills of the past, the pulp mills that would process most of the timber, aren't there anymore.

This is complicated by the on-again-off-again "No Roads Rule" which seeks to prevent wholesale development in the old growth areas of the forest. You can say what you want, and political policy can be changed, but the reality is that 96% of the locals support the No Roads Rule, that's from the most recent public survey.

What you have is the Forest Service's management plan butting up against the desires of timber industry types who don't want to put the money in to harvest the timber that is offered. The old growth conservation plan makes it difficult to offer what is left of the easy money to these companies. There is plenty of timber for sale, they just won't go get it because it isnt profitable to them.

The most high quality guitar sound boards are made of spruce.

Tongass has Sitka Spruce trees.

PoW Island is an interesting place, still 20 years behind the rest of the world, and thats not necessarily a bad thing.
