There's less work actually being done that you realize. It's a ton of "appear to work because the boss doesn't leave until 7:30PM, and you cannot leave before then."
I asked a coworker in Tokyo how most of the office, including women, would drink after work for hours, multiple times a week, and that's part of it. Even Koreans don't have the same drinking culture as the Japanese. They drink a lot, but it's not 105 pound women pounding 7&7 four days a week after work.
