I'm 37 and we considered this recently. Our kids are 17, 5 (not in school yet due to late birthday) & 2. I work for a big corporation and don't really like it, but the insurance is great. Wife is buying her Vet practice next June. Her pay will go up some, but I don't think it will be enough to offset my pay and benefits. It would be sweet to be a stay at home dad. I would probably only do it until the youngest was in school.

I think it'd be cool for a year or two but I don't think I'd be able to go beyond that.

I'm cool with the idea, but I think I would get tired of not having a job. I would need to do something besides house work.
I really don't like the idea of working 40 hours a week forever, though. The rat race frickin blows, no matter how much you make. So maybe being a stay at home husband would be better than working.

I basically am. I'm a musician and work on instruments (from home). Wife's a scientist.
I love it. I take care of the kids, do lunches and dinner. Run the kids to and from school and other things. Play my gigs, practice, record and go to rehearsals, work on instruments.

All the married men in my office are married to nurses, and my female cousin is an audit manager for a major accounting firm.
Even if both the husband and wife work, the wife is often bringing him more dough.

I work offshore, so I'm a stay at home dad during my weeks off. Couldn't do it full-time. 2 weeks at a time is enough.

Wife got a good job that required relocation so I've been stay at home Dad to a 2 year old for the past month. It's fun spending time with the kid and dicking off, but I'm ready to get back to work. Doesn't help not knowing anyone in town. And its harder on my pride than I thought it would be.

The more I think about it the more firmly I'm in my position in this. I just think the man of the household should be bringing in some form of income for his family.

No. But I don't think I could just hang around the house without a job with some kind of set schedule. My liver wouldn't last but a couple years in that situation.

As a caveat. If I could make what I make now and stay at home, I would.
