Those two made me look at the map.
Atlantic coastal states have some unusual dimensions.
I drive from New York City to Pensacola FL on occasion and I never get used to the idea that it only takes 4 hours to get from NY to Wash DC but then 6 more hours and you're still in Virginia.

So we’re not dealing with traffic.

If I am not mistaken, that is where the olympic bomber came from or got caught . Eric Rudolph.

When I travel to NC (especially western NC) from northwest GA, I cross that border. I refuse to deal with Atlanta area traffic.
Why on earth would you go from NW GA to W NC through Atlanta? That's like driving from Memphis to Nashville through Birmingham.
I feel like smart devices and GPS devices have significantly dumbed down people. Not a single post in this thread "surprised" me but I'm very surprised at what some people are "surprised" by.

Tennessee borders 8 states. Here are the border lengths in order (miles of border):
6. Kentucky - 225
7. Mississippi - 229
8. North Carolina - 332
How TF does this make sense when you look at a map?!

Silly that’s a total of four counties of WV.
How does a poor state stay poor?

They should have kept going westward and given the WV panhandle to either Ohio or Pennsylvania.

Kansas/Colorado for me. That always blows my mind when I’m hunting in the flat fields of Kansas. And it’s a huge border too

Two that nobody ever thinks about, because they are ONLY open water borders:
1. Illinois and Michigan. Water border in the middle of Lake Michigan:
2. Minnesota and Michigan, in the US portion of Lake Superior:
Only places where two states ONLY have an open water (i.e. non-river) border.

You can get from Murphy, NC to Higdon, AL in less than 2 hours.
But why would you want to?

I wouldn't Rig. I also don't go anywhere in NC through Atlanta except for the Outer Banks.
