It is better to wake up with a semi-rigid than a blimp.

You take air out of the brakeline to apply the brakes on a train.

And no, they don't use springs like brakes on trucks.

Taking the air out of the train line (that runs through all cars in a consist) allows the air from the individual cars air reservoir to compress the brake cylinder on that car. In essence, the train line controls the 3-way valve on each car, a reduction in train line pressure increases air pressure on the cylinder. It was Westinghouse's solution to provide a failsafe if for example there if cars break away from the train. In that case, the train line drops to zero and all those cars apply their brakes.

Air brakes on trucks only use springs to apply pressure for parking and for emergencies. Direct air pressure is used to activate the service brake but also keeps the springs compressed during normal movement. When parked the air pressure is vented and the spring "locks" the brake like a car uses the ratcheted action of the lever and cable to hold the pad/shoe on the disc/drum. This also acts as an emergency brake since if the line air pressure drops the spring will power the brakes.

Ok Oweo, I’ve stayed away from this and never made a comment. But if you welched again, you are a piece of shite. And to others, if EVER a bet is made again, make an admin involved to where he agrees that if he loses, he is banned by the site, not voluntarily. If he doesn’t agree to that beforehand, then don’t make the bet, because he will obviously welch on it. Why dude?

First, OweO actually won the bet and 08 banned himself yesterday to start his week. OweO said he didn't have to ban himself but if he did OweO would ban himself also. He later decided he would start his week on Sunday since he wanted to be around for the Florida game thread.

I told OweO in the thread not to frick this up because I knew he would.

Summer has the longest day period, and more total daytime than winter lmao. where do you come up with this?

Honestly? Neil Degrasse Tyson.

But, it is true. The expression, "The days get longer in the Summer and shorter in the Winter" is - in fact, 180 degrees wrong.

The first day of Summer is the LONGEST day of the year. Therefore every single day of Summer is shorter than the day before. The first day of Winter is the SHORTEST day of the year. Therefore, every single day of Winter is longer than the day before.

The days actually get shorter in the Summer and longer in the Winter.

What are you having problems with? Because I can explain it again. Be warned though, it is going to sound an awful lot like what is in this post.

This is why you hear that pressure release whenever a 18 wheeler or other large truck parks.

Out of all the hit songs that Barry Manilow had over the years, the only hit song he ever had that he *didnt* write was......... “I WRITE THE SONGS”

Not true.
He also didn't write "Mandy", his fist big hit. Or "Trying to get the Feeling Again". Or "Weekend in New England"... probably some more (I stopped looking after 3 counter examples).

Still an interesting factoid.

ETA: I see 2 others jumped on this before me....

You should leave 3 seconds of stopping distance between the car in front of you while on the Interstate in Baton Rouge.

Milwaukee is actually pronounced "mill-e-wah-que," which is Algonquin for, "the good land."

One of the most interesting aspects of Milwaukee is the fact that it's the only major American city to have ever elected three socialist mayors.

Despite being the 4th largest country in the world by land mass, the United States has the most track-miles of railroad by a large margin.

North Carolina has the most highway mileage of any state in the country.

Just looked up some random facts.

- Subway footlongs are not actually a foot long. According to subway, its just a registered trademark name, but the bread they get isn't a footlong and the name Footlong wasn't intended to be a measurement of length.

= Evidently, in the US.. 1 in 3 divorce filings includes the word "facebook".
