I want to start a charity but don't really know anything other than the causes I want to give to and the person I want to dedicate it to. I guess I should also ask if anyone knows of any charities dedicated to providing funeral arrangements for children lost shortly after delivery?

the funeral home that is handling the service should be able to help you.
Just talk to the owner/person in charge and keep reciepts.

Shhhhhh don't say that. If she gets popped by the po lees for her scam she's gonna say we sent in the hounds.

She's just a sweet harmless angel trying to fight the good fight.

That's LITERALLY how all charities are run these days in areas with limited resources. LITERALLY.

Make sure to call it a "movement" to avoid lawsuits but still enjoy all the perks

Yeah, I'm having a hard time with words and stuff currently lol.

Edit: probably would have fricked this whole message up on a regular day though, OT is the big times and I'm not ready.

You'll need to file a bunch of paperwork, have a board of directors, etc. if you're looking for tax exempt status. I would highly recommend hiring an attorney or CPA to take care of the paperwork for you to make sure you're submitting everything properly and not getting red taped to death by the IRS.

ETA: here's a good place to start. IRS lays it all out for you. LINK

If you are serious I would consider posting this with some info on the money board. You will get real help there but it may take a few days

Look into a donor advised fund with your local community foundation. That can be easier for setup and administration over a new nonprofit unless you plan to put up significant amounts.

Sounds like a good idea. Definitely some people going through the worst time in their lives.

Yeah...it occurred to me today that it hardly seems right for the first thing a new parent buys for their new baby is a funeral and I'm having trouble figuring out how I would have even managed that had it happened to me.
