So, they cut the gif off before it exploded into a 3d jigsaw puzzle?

No, I made that gif of just the launch. It blew up 4 mins into flight, that is a tad long for a gif dumbass.

I'm interested to see what the pad looks like underneath the orbital launch mount considering there's no flame diverter or trench... it's literally just a slab of concrete underneath

I guess it has a crater the size of a New Orleans pothole in it now

It kind of held up after static, but looking at those gifs it was a minimum of 10 seconds of direct contact. Going to be beat to hell.

There are photos of it on twitter, it is significant, and probably the culprit for some of the raptor failures.

I have wondered how the frick they plan to land on some planet covered in rocks and dust, this just makes me wonder even more.

Are they not leaving the larger craft in orbit and ferrying with some sort of lander? I honestly haven't read too deep into how their next missions are planning to handle this.

Less gravity. Less thrust needed.

You need to read up on gravity and the amount of thrust needed to not crash

We have landed on the moon and mars, so we have some knowledge of what is going to occur. Who knows what SpaceX will do, but there are renderings of the landing engines higher up

Yeah they will have to build a flame trench and water deluge system before next launch.
Tank farm looks to have escaped major damage but all that flying concrete likely damaged anything within a mile.
