Starbucks became a status symbol for some reason. People want other people to see them with a coffee cup with that symbol on it. Same as Nike, Louis Vuitton, Mercedes, etc. Somewhere it switched from just drinking a coffee to drinking a Starbucks coffee. Oooooohhhhhhhhh fancy!

I always like the “ ugh I never have any money and times are tight “ crowd in social media yet they have to get their $8 grande vanilla latte with light foam and triple shots of espresso every single day !

I use the app to pay and they’ve always scanned for it.
I haven’t had coffee in over a year, so I don’t do their lattes. I do like their Earl Gray and the occasional steamer.
Their egg bites are worth it though. I need to get the mold/insert for my Instant Pot to fix them at home.

I guess it's convenient if you live in the upper midwest, upstate New York, or Canada.
Their coffee sucks and their donuts are perpetually stale. Krispy Kreme is better at donuts. McDonalds is better at coffee.

If you happen to be in an area with one, try the coffee at Pret A Manger. It's cheaper than Starbucks and at a little better.
If you are in south Louisiana, there are even more options like PJ's, Coffee Call (BR), CC's, etc.

Those are legit. But hard as hell to find after the release date.

They've done a good job protecting their brand through a massive expansion. But I never thought of it as a status symbol.
