My wife has no idea what I make and she doesn't want to know. She wants to be a housewife and not have to worry about finances.

They aren't paid during the summer. You don't know what you're talking about.

Teachers are the biggest gripers ever. Be thankful that you have a job and get so much time off. Gee whiz. Such a pity party for them every time they don't get their way.

Some non certified teachers used to be paid one big check and lost benefits in the summer. They were rehired every year depending on need. That was a long time ago in some parishes. I don’t know if it is still done anywhere?
With the way everyone talks about how hard it is to retain teachers these days, I doubt this is still done.

This CBA wasn’t that great anyway and the teachers have been put in a position to fight for something they didn’t really like. What you posters don’t understand is the teachers pay is based on classroom hours 7 hrs per day. If they have duty before or after school they aren’t paid. If they are asked to oversee events, oversee detention etc. They almost never get paid their hourly rate for anything extra. It’s usually 18/hr for this or 20/hr for that or nothing. They guilt these teachers into doing it “for the children” frick the children they aren’t mine. Why should my wife a teacher in st Tammany have to work for free or pay her hard earned money for supplies etc. how is this acceptable? Does it work this way at your job? I’m not a union fan and conservative AF, but these teachers have to protect themselves with a CBA because if not these systems will exploit the F out of them. And this CBA doesn’t address any of that. Pay the teachers their hourly rate for EVERYTHING and you will never have to worry about duty shortages having safety concerns or any other thing. You’d have teachers falling on top of each other trying to make extra money.

Oh boy...here come the teacher gripes while they enjoy their 3 month summer taxpayer funded vacation sipping Pina Coladas by the pool. Their griping falls on my deaf ears. Get back to work in 3 weeks and focus on your job and the kids. Don't be selfish.
Oh frick you. Those people are the reason your kid can get into college.

Do professionals not get paid for overtime?
Yeah, that’s how it works in most professions.,
Most professionals also don’t work under a CBA.

Are teachers not salaried workers?
Posted on 7/12/24 at 6:13 am to LifeTimeTiger2
My wife and I work extra hours all the time and don’t get paid extra or overtime for it. We also don’t have the summers off.

You can work another job when you are off, do summer camps, etc.. that’s extra money whether you divide your teaching salary over 12 or 10 months.
Who else gets that opportunity?
This. They want their cake and eat it too. Go get a summer job.
