Because it’s not just for Slidell. If it passes, then a casino can build in any part of St Tammany parish. Meaning they are eyeing the Mandeville lakefront.

The parish is a bedroom community with multiple casinos as little as 30 mins away. There is absolutely no good that will come from building a casino here.

I don’t think it’ll make Slidell any worse than it is. The folks yelling it’ll make people go bankrupt or get divorced are nuts. Those degenerates are already gambling in MS or NOLA.
Can it potentially bring more crime from NOLA east over the bridge? Of course, but that’s happening already.
The bigger issue with the parish is the idiot politicians who run it. Slidell wouldn’t need a casino if they worked at bringing actual jobs to the city or redeveloped the mall to something useful but their too lazy to do it.

There’s enough casinos around here. Drive 30 minutes in either direction from Slidell and you’ll hit multiple casinos. Would rather someone do something mew and unique for the area.

Sure, for this specific issue it’s Slidell. But if a yes vote happens for this proposal, then the residents of St Tammany parish will never get to vote again. Any other proposal for a casino will go through each city council and it will be up to them to approve or deny a casino in each city.
So while this vote is for this specific property, there would never be another vote again because St Tammany residents will already have voted yes for casinos for the parish. We would completely leave all future decisions on additional casinos to the city parish.

Slidell is already going down the toilet and the NIMBY's are going keep flushing it at all costs. Gause Blvd and OST already looks ghetto af, Fremeaux isn't doing all that great, crime rates are going up...what else is there to bring into Slidell that will make people happy?
