St. George vs. North Baton Rouge Economic Development District?

So this passed yesterday. What's the difference between this, which passed with a majority vote, and St. George, which was strongly opposed as a "racist white utopia"?

Funds collected will be used for economic development, the creation of jobs, and issues that face the citizens of North Baton Rouge. It’s time that for our part of town to get its fair share.

The creation of the Baton Rouge North Economic Development District as a political subdivision will allow certain beneficial distinctions for the purposes of economic development. The term “Economic Development” is a broad term and has many under lying components such as employment, commercial activity, financial support, advocacy and education.

Baton Rouge North
One of those "colored people"/"people of color" type deals?

that couldn't be more vague.
If it is just tax breaks for people who start businesses in NBR, then it's not much an issue.
If it works like the film tax "credits" that end up costing taxpayers, then frick that.
I suspect it is the latter.

Not enough cell phone stores or cash advance places I guess

I'd like to see a breakdown of taxes collected versus government funds distributed by metro district.

"It’s time that for our part of town to get its fair share."
Our community, our town, our people are the official terms of art used to separate and divide racial groups.

Exactly. No one would argue that a strong NBR is bad for the city. The problem is that education and crime are going to make it very hard to develop.

I don't see anything about an annexation or a secession from the EBR school system in there anywhere ..

So maybe not a direct succession, however they are saying that they will provide funds to North Baton Rouge schools in the EBRPSS and not those in Southeast Baton Rouge.

So fricking ready for St. George.

Yeah. The extra hotel tax will go to things like an enterprise zone program.

There's no comparing this to St. George. Come on.

It's a scam by the black reps on the metro council in order to make the numbers look feasible to attract a hospital to build there in a quasi private/public capacity. The whole point was to give them another chance to land that Champion deal (Gary Chambers was on their payroll). Now that the Champion people have been caught red-handed running a scam in Texas, this economic development plan should be DOA. However, the election of Sharon Weston-Broome may provide enough impetus to jam it through anyways despite the fact that Champion will be bilking the taxpayers and paying off local politicians since that's what Sharon's constituents want anyways.

All of the self-professed progressives living in Southdowns and around the lakes, along with affluent areas around LSU that put Broome in over White are about to get a rude awakening...

Seems to me that at the end of the day, both efforts are just people who think "it's time that for our part of town to get its fair share" and both are trying to create a "political subdivision [that] will allow certain beneficial distinctions for the purposes of economic development."

One would have completely changed the face of the parish and probably plunged the city limits into financial struggles. The other just seeks to toss money at a long time issue that has held BR back. Just not seeing the comparison, still.
