No word on when it will go to vote, but it will be on a ballot in the near future and only the residents that live in the boundary lines will vote on it.

With all the business annexing to Baton Rouge, the residents will get the shite taxed out of them if this passes. Property tax will go through the roof

What's the property tax in zachary or central?

Interesting. I wish the organizers the best of luck and I think a new city and school district would be beneficial to those of is that live here. The people will have the option of taxing themselves for better roads, schools, etc. if they want them. We'll also have the freedom to make the same mistakes Baton Rouge did if that's what is desired.
I didn't think they could continue to collect signatures after they've submitted the petition. I guess they can.

“We chose to turn the petition in early due to the constant efforts by the City of Baton Rouge to undermine the democratic process,”

I'm not registered to vote, but if does come up for vote, I'm registering.

Maybe that's a good thing? If the community works out and schools are better, I'd be willing to pay more in property taxes.

If taxes reach Zachary proportions and a new fancy public school is erected in next 3 years, won't it be worth it?

My buddy lives in Zachary, has a 1600 sq ft house on a .25 acre lot and pays about $4,000 a year in taxes

Well when Kip is using taxpayer money to fly lawyers across the country to meet with the CEO's of companies that are in the boundary lines, I began to support it. I'm still undecided how this will go, but I'm sure it's going to be nasty. Get ready for more political ads on TV.

Gonna pay one way or another, either in taxes or private school tuition

higher property taxes means better schools and less trash. So that is a good thing

The article in the Advocate that I read said Pierson paid her own way and is working pro bono on the SG case except just for the Woody Jenkins lawsuit.
Do you have a different source that says the Advocate had it wrong?

You really expect Kip (or any mayor, really) to just sit back and say "Ohh, suuure. Just take all that tax money from our city."

Kip represents the entire parish. In theory, he should be looking after the best interests of the entire parish, not just Baton Rouge.
