They used it as an example of the opportunity available to BR. In the 60's & 70's BR and Austin were the same city...but their community leaders at the time invested in regional growth and planning to attract high-earning industries such as the semiconductor sector.
You have to admit that elementary and secondary education is a huge key in any metropolis right?
So why is it that Austin has ISDs? Maybe because it works better? Maybe you have better local control? Maybe you have more parental involvement and neighborhood schools?
EBR has four school districts right now. The main district which is one of the worst in the state, a small district that is struggling too, and two newer ones that are both doing very well.
That alone is better than what we had 20 years ago when we had one big cesspool of a district. It's proof positive to me that by splitting up into smaller districts you can improve things for some.

But you throw out a vague, blanket characterization of our local politicians to prop-up your argument that the annexations are illegal. If you can't see how that's a straw man argument, then I can't help you.
Either you're completely ignorant or you actually want me to list every hyphenated name of the morons in our local politics.

You need to read up and see where I said I support splitting the current EBRPSS into four neighborhood districts.

It is already in four districts.
Do you want to split up the EBR System into four districts?
That might work. I'd listen.

Well one of the morons you listed in an earlier post actually represents St. George. And the mayor you've listed as well won South BR precincts by a higher margin than NBR in the 2008 election.

Yes. The current EBR System into four neighborhood districts. This was proposed sometime last year and made a good bit of sense.

I voted for Kip in 2012.
Mike Walker is a dumbass who voted against alcohol on Sundays in 2012.

LOL, sure it costs a lot of money to run a city, but the fact is we are already spending a lot of money, but we don't have a city.
And it will cost MORE money to start a new city. What part of that is confusing you and making you laugh?

Tell them to Laugh at Kip Holden not me. He and his crew told us that back in 2003.
Kip Holden is a liberal. I would expect him to aspire for BR to be more like Austin.

And if we could form our own ISD, I would drop the idea of a separate city.
Well then, that's your best bet. The new legislation would make that much easier. According the number Lionel Rainey is quoting in the linked article, they are not on pace to get the required signatures, and since the boundaries of the proposed city have changed, it's not clear that the petition is still legal anyway. If an ISD really is the only goal, then St. George supporters are barking up the wrong tree.

Is it vague to say that judge Janice Clark is a joke? Around half of her cases are retried as brand new cases. If you think she's a good quality judge, I can't help you.

I do not believe it will.
Oh sure there are some start up costs, but most of govt. services will remain intact.
Sewer, Library, Schools, EMS, Fire, sheriff, etc. are all parish run systems.
What's left is not nearly as much as you'd think.

Question: If St George gets it's own city, what is the plan if they don't get there own school district? It's my understanding that the issue would be brought to a statewide vote. What if that vote failed?
And to the guy that has his panties in a wad over the annexations.....you are all for the right to vote to form st. george, but not for the right of a property/business owner with property contiguous to the city of BR to stay in BR after he could potentially be included in St George after the lines have been drawn? Your thoughts seem to be contradictory.

As a resident of the area, I cannot imagine what we'd do without having CATS in our lives

They wouldn't know this bc they have never gone to a school board meeting and don't even know what member represents them.
It amazes me they think an ISD would be better when they don't even participate now.

Or a city council meeting. Based on the comments of a few, I'm wondering if they've ever witnessed the shite show that is all city council meetings. Look at the crap that goes on in the Livingston parish council meetings, or the Gonzales city council meetings. I won't even mention Port Allen.

Kip is a Democrat but the Green Light Plan is about the best thing that's ever happened to Baton Rouge.

Sorrento may have surpassed them all IMO.

Have you ever been to Austin?
