re: Squirrel in attic - solutions?

Is it a typical ground squirrel or a nocturnal flying squirrel.

I have luck with live traps, game cameras, and hickory nuts glued down.

Might have to give them some free ones a few nights to get them used to the traps. Cameras work well to see if they are interested. They can't resist those hickory or walnuts

Squirrel in the attic, eh?

It’s going to seem counter intuitive, but what you’re going to want to do is get another squirrel and tie a string to it. Slip it in the attic. Eventually the two squirrels are going to become co-dependent. Thats when you pull the string and bring both squirrels out.

Yep. They make a 100+ decibel sound at 30,000 hertz (or something like that). People and dogs can't hear it but squirrels can and it drives them nuts. Those are within a cat's hearing range.

You can also put apple cider vinegar, or fox urine spray, on old rags and hang them in the attic. Squirrels will leave because of the smell.

Unfortunately I have waaay to much experience with this .
You can buy a live trap at Home Depot etc.
Get the mid size one for squirrels because the small one can come down as they stretch into the trap and they can back out sometimes...
I bait it with peanut putter and peach jam.
Also throw a lot of the rat killer blocks around in the attic. They eat the poison then go look for water and if lucky die outside.... if unlucky die in a wall which you will eventually smellit. That will be a good time to visit grandma for a few days.
Try to find where coming in and plug with steel wool and trim it out to look nice with wood etc

I started trapping them outside and relocate them to a park a few miles away. .
I have two traps I use every day and have caught forty plus squirrel and three possums.
This reduces the number looking for an attic to mate and have babies in.

I live in katy texas in a forty year old subdivision with lots of oak trees.

We had a family (Momma and two babies) move into our attic. They went into a hole on the back of my house. Tried a Hav-A-Hart trap with various baits with no luck.

Bought an air shotgun (Pellet rifle that shoots shotshells) from Pyramid Air. My mutt killed one of the babies and I killed the other two. The air shotgun shoots a small load and is only deadly to about 30-40 feet so you don't have to worry about hitting your neighbors house.
