Our power went out for about 3 hours this weekend. I have a 3 year old and 1 year old, no lights, no ac, no tv, no sound machine (for their naps), no appliances to cook, etc. Got me thinking about what i'd do if something awful happened and there was no power for weeks, months, etc.

ETA: Got me thinking how dependent and unprepared i am.

Ours was out for about 2 weeks after Hurricane Gustav. It sucked, but was not totally unmanageable.

Crank the generator and buy a couple of cases of beer. Then drive around until I saw power company crew. Give them the beer and my address.

It worked after hurricane Ivan.

Our internet was out last week. My girlfriend and I had to sit and talk the whole night. We went to bed at like 8 pm.

We were without power for two weeks during Katrina and another week for Rita and we just went on living our lives I must say it was easier after Rita because we had a generator and a window unit air conditioner.

I lost power for 3 weeks from one in Houston in like 2009.I was in high school at the time and worked at a sports shop at the mall, so I just worked from open to close, racked up $ and savored the AC. No one was shopping so I just got to chill and watch ESPN.

Lost power for 2 weeks during Issac in BR. Just got really drunk the whole time.

No gas cooktop or grills/smokers/propane burners? Might be time to get your husband to do some shopping.

Would be boring and suck.

I was in orange beach during Katrina and had no power for 8 days (condo on perdido beach blvd). It sucked. Miserably hot, bored, went to bed early but that was miserable too with the heat index in the 90s every day.

I drove to different restaurants in gulf shores and foley at 11am or so for lunch every day and just hung out for 3 or 4 hours, ordering and eating two or 3 meals, sometimes taking one back home if I was too stuffed after eating two meals.

Use my Coleman lanterns, stoves, and lamps. Sometimes I wish for the power to go out, so I can fire them babies up. I don't understand why people can't have some to be prepared.

As long as I still have natural gas I’m good to go.

We had no power for 3 days after Irene in South Georgia.

We ate a lot of fast food. Because somehow, the Hardee’s two miles away had power.

The cable and internet was out for longer.
