What we need to know are how many were AT FAULT drivers?
We already knew that more people would be on marijuana once it was legalized

Not trolling. Addiction is an ugly thing and there's a whole lot of ugly in this thread.

Since THC stays in your system for a few weeks, I'm wondering if these people just had THC in their system or if they were actually high while driving

Bingo, this was published by someone who hates weed

The researchers found that the percentage of drivers involved in fatal crashes who recently used marijuana more than doubled from eight to 17 percent between 2013 and 2014.

I'd like to know what they mean by "recently used" in this statement.

Now the issue is how to develop a test that can tell the difference between someone who smoked a bowl last night and someone who smoked one 15 minutes ago.

Addiction is a horrible thing. Addiction took 26 years of my life that I built up and threw away all because of some fricking opiates. As someone who has been there and as someone who had his family witness the soulless human being I had become, I know all about addiction and my family does too. Not once have I ever thought or they ever said "damn you weed, you're the devil and made me/him an addict." That's not how this works.

Or 2 weeks ago.

Seems as if it's sorta in the same boat as someone who takes 7 xanax with 2 Ambien and a thermos of coffee.

They could pass a breathalyzer, but..DUI for sure.

You're obviously the article's intended audience. Someone too simple you realize the vague data used.

Yeah, I have no doubt that the cops filing the stats are honest and accurate

That article didn't tell you if there are more stoned drivers. Only that more have it in their system. It didn't mention what type of tests were performed, who was at fault, or how the total numbers compare over several years. It's the kind if study I'd expect inbev and Pfizer to fund.

It would be nice to know marijuana caused vehicle deaths vs all fatal prescription drugs stats

In not sure of any blood test that actually tests for THC anyway. Its broken down pretty quickly by the body. They test for either the metabolite that is not psychoactive and remains in your system for weeks or do a ratio of the psychoactive metabolite to the non-psychoactive one to dertermine if you used it recently.

It's funny, that piss test you take for work is really teating for the metabolite that shows you smoked sometime in the past month and not if you were actually impared at a time of incident.

But doesn't THC remain in your system far longer than alcohol and long after the effects wear off? If that's the case, how can THC levels be used to determine to what degree someone is impaired?

This video came out at least 2 years ago, so idk what technology they were using to test.

I think they had something that purported to test current levels of THC, or something like that. Maybe it was experimental tech that hasn't been fully developed, idk.

The people would drive, then smoke, then drive, then smoke some more, so on and so on. It wasn't until like the 3rd or 4th smoke break that any of the participants demonstrated impaired driving.
