Signing up for Credit Karma is a good idea for someone trying to build their score. They explain the factors that affect your credit score in a way that a 10 year old could understand.

Slowly add multiple cards with better benefits (cash back, etc), but never cancel your oldest lines of credit.
this will lower your average age which can hurt you

I'd suggest creditwise over credit karma if you want to go with one of those Credit Karma is just AD-PACKED.

Most credit cards have a free credit report of some type built in. All three of my cards give one along with one from my bank.

annualcreditreport.com is the one I would suggest checking out. Although you only get to view it once a year for free it gives some deep inside info the others don't.

I'm not a finance guy, but I assume the credit system is that way so you can prove you pay your debts.

Well yeah, of course.

Good credit comes from a great history of paying your debts, like a Lannister.

True, you shouldn't add all Willy nilly. But by adding more cards you will also boost your available credit dramatically which will help you alot more than the average age will hurt you from what I've seen.

My opionion is to start early, pick some good cards to add in the first few years, then stick with them and then ask for credit line increases on them regularly.

My first card only gave me a 300 credit line. It's now up to 600 dollars.. (whoopeee! Not..). My second card started me out at 2500... It's now up to 10000. My third card started me out at 5000, it's now up to 20000.

One of the best things I ever heard was "you arent rich unless you earn 4-5 times more than you spend.". Obviously that can be adjusted some, but the concept is solid. One i've worked towards. Again I'm single, dont know if that will ever change, so obviously easier.
this equates to like 80% savings rate. Very few do this even with super high salaries I’d imagine.

Usually it's "peace of mind". Unless since you're older you want to give everyone else a piece of your mind.

Too many people spend money by going into debt with items that depreciate and eventually are almost worthless. This includes extravagant weddings new vehicles, expensive toys, trailers (in most cases), expensive phones, big screen tvs, jewelry and other things they want - but DO NOT need.

Then they wonder why they have no money. They have no clue how to invest in themselves and their future. It's all about image and they piss away money on their efforts to appear like they have money.
