No. The reason that's a law on the interstate is because exits are mostly on the right. On regular roadways, you have a multitude of turning possibilities left or right.
Also, to those who praise the LAW of passing lanes but ignore the LAW of speed limits....stop using LAWS to back your arguments.

that is wrong. the reason this law is in place is to keep traffic flowing. slow drivers in the left lane are not only a danger to people who actually know how to drive, they also create traffic jams

My approach is just common courtesy. That rear view mirror is for more than just backing up.
If I see someone coming up on me faster than I'm going and I'm able to get over, I do.
I don't really think it's any bigger than that. The whole "he things he owns the road" thing is just passive aggressive road rage.
I don't walk slow in front of faster walkers in a hallway. I don't do it on the street.
Cause, well, I'm not an a-hole.

Do you consider Airline Hwy between Industriplex and Highland Road a city street?
Just because it's lined with businesses and unprotected left turns?

I'm not missing my turn because you want to drive fast.
And yes, the reason that the left lane is the passing lane that allows the flow of traffic to go faster on the interstate is because most of the exits are on the right. In the city people need to be in the left lane because people regularly need to turn left. This isn't a difficult concept.

being in the right lane CLEARLY does not apply to someone turning left.......................

Au_251, do you ride someone's arse if they do not get over? Do you get pissed off?
Posted on 8/19/16 at 4:01 pm to mouton
Only on the interstate. People make left-hand turns on other streets.
Posted on 8/19/16 at 4:03 pm to mouton
The irony of people who get mad if you are in the left lane on a city street is that they are the same drivers who get upset if you are in the right lane in front of them at a stop light and they want to turn right while you want to continue going straight.
These people have miserable lives and are probably in a rush to get home and beat their SOs.

Mouton, I try not to ride anyone's arse. I hate when people do it to me. However, if someone has been cruising in the left lane for a long time, has had ample time to get over, and is causing backup, I will sometimes get closer for a short period to urge them to get over, depending on my mood.
Low and behold, when I get around these people, these people are either texting, old, doing something else stupid they shouldn't be while driving.
Don't get me started on texting and driving. If any of you that have disagreed with me engage in texting and driving, I will find you on the road, and make you pay.

Like I stated earlier, If I see someone approaching at a faster speed and it is convenient for me to get over I do as long as they do not fly up on my bumper. Many, many people fly up like they expect you to get over like on the interstate. That was the point of the thread. You should not expect people to get over because it is not a passing lane.
Posted on 8/19/16 at 4:14 pm to mouton
I'm not gonna fly up behind anyone on a city street. But yes, one should get over if they can and someone behind them is going faster. So... cool?

That is what I said except you should not expect them to because it is not a passing lane and you do not know if they have a turn ahead.
Posted on 8/19/16 at 4:32 pm to mouton
You already did this.
It is still considered a passing lane.
