There are some beautiful areas in the far western part of the state... Guadalupe and Big Bend National Parks are underrated. I'm drawing a blank as far as cities where I'd like to live out there though. Midland, Odessa, El Paso, etc. don't really tempt me too much.

Can't tell if you are trolling or are just ignorant. LA just has one of the most unique culture's in the entire country, world renown cuisine, and the best inshore and off shore fishing. Yea nothing great here.

I've only driven through, but Flagstaff struck me as a pretty neat little town.

All of the things you listed are available all along the Gulf Coast
