Spinoff: Most Ridiculous Union Experience Story

So, I was contractor working in a heavily unionized plant. The first day we brought in our box truck with our equipment. As we are opening the truck, a big union meathead rolls up and tells us to stop. It goes down like this:
Meathead: You can't unload this truck without union Laborers here to help.
Me: Why not? It's my truck. My guys are here. We know how to unload it. We don't need any help.
Meathead: These are the rules. You can't touch that truck until some Laborers are here.
So, he talks into his radio and we sit there and wait for 45 mins. Finally, a golf cart rolls up with two "Laborers" in it. One is a 275#, five foot tall, morbidly obese black woman. The other is a 125# skinny young white dude covered in tats, playing on his phone.
Meathead: Ok, you guys can start now.
Me: Are they gonna help us unload?
Meathead: No.
Me: Ok. Got it.
We unload the truck. They never leave the golf cart. About halfway through they get the Ok to head back to the "pool". Meathead later tells me that they cannot be called out on another "Laborer" job for 4 more hours. So they can recover from this one.
I am sure the OT can top that. But that's what I've got.

Professional non union employee was moving offices. He was carrying his trash can and a picture to his new office when a union hand stopped him and said he couldn't do that. Moving stuff was a union labor job. The guy continued moving small stuff and a grievance was filed against him.

Sounds like a pointless but great job if you can get it and don't mind being poor
ETA: meaning union laborers, not you

Went to start a tile job, there were a couple of extension cords running across the floor.
Started rolling them up as no one was using them.
PM tells me I'm not allowed an electrician will have to do it.
Couldn't start job for 2 days waiting on cords to be moved.

that’s awesome, did you get paid to just go sit there?

Another one.
Union hall sent 8 welders that didn't have the proper certs. All got paid because of seniority. The 9th welder with the proper certs did the job in 20min. Cost the company roughly 3 grand for a 20 min job.
UNIONS SUCK!

No. I wasn't union. Probably cost me a few thousand by screwing up my schedule and having to pay overtime to get THERE job back on schedule.
Never worked on a job with union help since

I thought this was going to be about high-school parties at the LSU Student Union in the 80s-early 90s.
Boh-ring.
but for real, i have some insane stories from when i represented the health & welfare and pension funds for IBEW, plumbers, ufcw, etc. Some corrupt mofos, and the bosses all had pics of them shaking hands with democrats, especially Billy Jeff.

Went to a trade show at the convention center in Detroit. Walked in with a rolling suitcase to set up my booth. Was told by Union folks that the suitcase was Freight and had to be moved to booth by Union folks. They brought a giant forklift over with a pallet and put the little suitcase on the pallet and then weighed the whole thing to charge by the pound. Rolled forklift over to my booth and lowered pallet onto floor. Driver was looking at me to get the suitcase off pallet and I said "nope". He had to haul his fat arse down off the forklift and hand me the suitcase. He was visibly pissed.

I couldn't put up with that union nonsense. I'm still surprised so many companies do

1) "Spinoff" in the title. Several months ago people spammed spinoff threads over a couple hours and admins got mad and said no more spinoff threads
2) union baws on their phones at work instead of working probably complaining to the admins

Fair CSB, but I can't tell due, not to atty confidence or priv (I represented the funds not the unions), but think Jimmy Hoffa.
