Yes, they determined it was a clock. Next they needed to determine if it was meant to be a hoax bomb, then I'd imagine they wanted to determine if it was ever meant to be used as a component to a real bomb...in other words they were doing police work. Shocking I know, and better yet people will sometimes get offended. Just like when you have to take off your shoes to get on an airplane.

the terrorists count on winning people to their side. Killing a bunch of innocent children won't help with that. Children are very important to islam. And you are going to alienate potential allies if you target them. Could it happen? Sure. Will it, I doubt it.
