I've been pondering this question since a friend told me he was involved with a married woman. They've been seeing each other - when they can - for roughly a year and a half now. He says they are in love - soulmates as he described it. They have gone on trips together and have been sexually active for some time now. He sees her pretty much on a daily basis - and the husband isn't aware. I know the couple personally and can say that the husband is a piece of unfiltered crap...over the years of knowing them, I've seen him belittle her in front of others, yell at her and threaten her. Now, I've never seen any marks on her or the like, but I know that the mental/emotional abuse is there.

Back to my friend and her, I've also seen my friend around them (same social functions) and all, and since he told me about it I noticed the looks she gives him, etc. Anyway, he has told me that she's going to divorce him and eventually they will marry.

What are the odds of this being successful - or is he being set up? I want to give advice but not sure what to say.

Both do. He has one from a previous marriage and she has two.

The odds of someone involved in this shitshow getting killed are higher than the two soulmates pulling that off successfully.

I would say the odds of success are pretty high. They've kept up the affair this long and they both seem to fit one another.

One thing of caution however....the allure of affairs is for adventure of the risque part of not getting caught. When you choose to leave your spouse for someone you are having an affair with, all of the problems of marriage will come back into play once again. Of course affairs are fun etc b/c you don't have to put up with bullshite, but once they are married, real life will hit them. Bills, kids, arguments, etc.

This thread makes me wish I had more interesting friends.

I would say the odds of them getting married are high. How long it lasts is another question. Women will leave a husband for another man, but a man will typically not leave his wife for a mistress unless he's forced to.

Oh yeah, they are always "soulmates"

Just another excuse people make in order to justify their cheating.

Amazing how many "soulmates" a person can have.
