Speed limit change in Covington

When did the Hwy in front of Walmart/Movie Tavern go from 45 to 35? That is way too slow for a three lane road.

I notice that yesterday myself. It had to have been recent.

Well to be fair, with the way traffic usually is there, I don’t think I’ve ever driven faster than 35.

If a safety study was done and results indicated a notable benefit in a reduction, then it’s likely warranted. That’s more valid than your layman’s observations.

So it’s 35 now from the Shell until you get past wal-mart? I didn’t notice that when I drove through there earlier this week.

Revenue generator.

Not likely since you’ll never get up to 35 anyway

I hate what STT has become.

You are correct a traffic study is required per LA law to change a speed limit. That traffic study for that stretch of road should be on file with the clerk of court.
I got a ticket years ago on the interstate at Bluebonnet where that slight rise is. They were getting ready to start construction there and put new speed limit signs out. Right over the "hill" there were 5 state troopers giving out tickets. It was a setup. There was one trooper running the laser and 4 writing tickets. I pulled over and the trooper walked up to my car and started writing me a ticket for way faster than I was going.
I decided to fight it. I requested the traffic and engineering study done to lower the speed limit. Turns out it was never done. Also, the construction company had put those signs there without any kind of authorization at all. The State Police saw the lower speed limit signs and started writing tickets.
I went to court and pled not guilty. The ADA asked me why. I said "the speed limit is still 70 per the traffic study. There was no authorization to change the speed limit". She said "the official speed limit is whatever the sign says regardless of what's on file at the court house". I said "Great, this is awesome". She asked what I was talking about. I said "I'm changing the speed limit in my neighborhood to 100 miles an hour so I can race up and down the road". She said "it doesn't work that way". I said "pick one, you can't have it both ways. The law is very clear on this and it doesn't match what you are saying it is. I'm not going away over this".
My ticket was dismissed.
If someone waves a rule book at you, learn it better than they know it and beat them to death with their own rules.

It just changed over the past week. If you go into Covington from 190, they have construction signs up right where it changes from 45 to 35. It's going to be a cluster once they actually start...

What construction is planned for that stretch? First I have heard of it. I hope it’s not one of those projects where they put out orange barrels, close a couple of lanes but never seem to do anything.

This complete story is bullshite. The speed limit has NEVER been 70 at bluebonnet. It is within coty limits so a max of 60, by law, is allowed

You stop that use of facts right now.

Going to be changing up turning lanes and adding uturns only in some places. Goes from 12 all the way to chimes and rouses.
Why can't we just get a wider bridge over the bogue falaya?

They usually mark the date on the back of the sign when it’s installed.

trying to sync the lights and the speed to get the traffic moving

It drops from 70-65 on the bridge over Siegen, and 65-60 near Essen.

Technically true but also contextual false - coming from the other direction the speed limit drops from 70-60 before bluebonnet. The post you are responding to is referring to where construction dropped it from 70 to 60 earlier than before. It’s just before Bluebonnet relatively speaking.
