That’s absolutely a main reason.
This was 2-3 years after Rodney King and it was still fresh in everybody’s mind. There was a mob outside that courthouse just waiting for a guilty verdict so that they could commence to burning and pillaging.
The supreme irony of it all? OJ Simpson had about as much in common with that mob as you or I do.
