Spark plugs on F-150

My understanding is that replacing the spark plugs on the newer f-150’s is fricking nightmare. Anybody paid to have it done? How much?

If it's those weird 2 piece plugs good freakin luck, they love to snap off in the block.

How new is the truck and why would you change the plugs....?
My wife has '06 Tahoe with 90k miles and the plugs have never been changed...

what is the set up? does it have plug wires? if so, try to just change those first.

My '95 2dr Tahoe did that... Wound up being a bad plug wire that kept shorting against the block...
But bring it in and get a tune up...

I believe those trucks are like the 2000 and on...COP (Coil On Plug) rather than wires.
To the OP..have you checked the fuel filter?

Special wrench tool to get the back two out. Designed so that you have to take it in. My 2010 F150 has 117K miles and is due for a change. Recommended at 100K. I think they quoted around $600 at dealership. Ridiculous.

Look up your truck on "Ford's Enthusiasts Forums", I heard Louis Altazan talking about this last week. A guy called and said they wanted $1500 for a tune-up. He said: "Am I getting jobbed?". They said no, if it is the split plugs, they can break-off and if that happens, they have to pull the heads or pull the cab to remove the engine. He said $1500 would be a low number, could be way more.
Go to Autozone and get them to pull a code on it. Then look it up on that site and it will tell you how to fix it and provide pdf/videos, etc. on how to do it. I hear that the plug issue is something you need to prepare for before you do it.

Tune ups for our fords are retarded priced... $350+ because of how hard they are to deal wth.

you'll need to bring it to the dealership. had my 2006 f-150 changed in all cylinders for about $375. I couldn't get regular mechanics to mess with it due to the spark plugs breaking off.

2010 is after the broken plug issue was fixed
Shouldn't have any problems with the plugs breaking. I believe that was pre-2006

You can do six of them yourself. There are many fuel lines and cables in the way but it can be done by a shade tree mechanic. There are two long, thin bolts to get the coil out, then the plug.
Find a guy on Craigslist to do the last two. He will charge you about $50 each for labor.
Probably only one or two are bad now. They will all go out within a few weeks of each other.
Also, add some Seafoam in your gas. It will clean any impurities along the way to your plugs.

I believe they stopped putting those 2 piece plugs in sometime mid-2008 so you should be good.

This. And as to why you would take it to the dealer, like another poster said, most independent mechs won't touch it.

My mechanic is awesome... The guys are honest, and wont screw anyone over... Believe it or not... They're out there... You just need to find them or have someone recommend them..

Changing them out on my 2012 Ecoboost isn't hard at all. Not sure how much has been redesigned on the 2014 and 15s though
