funny how it's always the parents who spank their children that have all of the behavioral problems with them...

the most popular discipline method of the ghetto and trailer parks
That would be to pass the kids off to the grandparents and stay out drinking and drugging all hours of the day. That is, if they even know who their biological father is.

I'd like to think I'm intelligent and upper middle class, and I use a combination of time out, taking certain toys and electronic devices away, being punished, and *gasp* sometimes a hand to the arse. If anybody says they do anything else, they aren't a real parent and are speaking from an idealistic soap box, devoid of any real parenting experience.

didn't say I was intelligent I said spanking was unintelligent. Reading comprehension is hard eh?

Anyways by all means please continue to use the most popular discipline method of the ghetto and trailer parks. Don't let me get you all flabbergasted

Definitely not intelligent...as seen by your having to associate spanking with trailer parks and trashy in order to bring it down.

I mean I can turn that around and say we in our gated multimillion dollar subdivision will continue to spank our children on a rare occasion. Do you want to to jump the fence now and be on this side? Do yourself a favor and quit being a moron with your petty bs comments.

Maybe. But at least I'm not blaming it on a "disorder."

My dad spanked us as a last resort punishment until we were about 10. Then he started taking shite away from us and wouldn't let us go fishing or hunting when we misbehaved. My brother and I are both college educated and both have families or our own.

To many people need to be educated on the difference in a beating and a spanking. Most of those people need to learn that every kid responds to discipline in a different way. Learn which works for your kid and use that.

Some kids deserve a spanking but it should be a last resort punishment, there’s much better ways to teach them not to be shitheads.

This is my philosophy. I rarely lay a hand on my kids. A couple situations call for it in my mind. The last time I spanked a kid of mine it was because they were being a complete a-hole to their younger brother. I think I have spanked my 20 year old once, my 8 year old twice, and my 6 year old once...in their entire life.

If you get to the point you must spank, you generally have failed to teach the kid what your expectations for their behavior are, I know in my case that is what applies.

I would say that if you simply beat the frick out of your kid all the time and didn't go beyond that.

But if you happen to spank your kid for something serious, and then take the time to explain why he/she was spanked and what he/she did was wrong, then I disagree whole heartedly.

I just reason that all that good explanation, and laying out of expectations for behavior should generally happen prior to the situation. Its great and all to explain, but for the vast majority of situations fall into about 3 categories.

honesty
kindness
politeness

Most kids should be able to know if what they did is impolite, unkind, or dishonest if that behavior has been demanded of them from early on.
