Spanish Town or Southdowns Parade for young kids?

Would one of these parades better than the other for kids ages 3 1/2 and 1 1/2?
Just moved back to Baton Rouge from another state and want the kids to experience Mardi Gras.
Thoughts/Suggestions

Southdowns although Spanish Town is the "bigger" parade

South Downs...unless you find the "family" section to stand in on the Spanish Town route.
The kids will like the flamingoes in ST, but there are a lot of adult-themed things going on there (although that young, they probably won't even notice most of the stuff).

Southdowns all around is more family friendly, but Spanish Town isn't bad, if you get the right spot.

Spanish Town is a better parade overall. More fun, and it's pretty safe.

Southdowns is the correct answer.

Spanish Town, no way; Southdowns, yes.

Looks like
I see the route goes down Stuart. Would this be a good place to stand or is there a better place?

where are the "family friendly" spots?
I just want to decrease probability of being around fights, etc.
FWIW I feel like a total lamo asking such a thing.

Why? I'd worry about that too. If someone throws a wild punch and hits one of my children, I'd be completely devastated.....after I went Super Saiyan.

If you're talking about Southdowns, the whole route seems to be about the same, IMO. I have 3 friends who live along the route in different areas, and they all seem to have about the same crowd.
Spanish Town supposedly has an alcohol-free zone (see LINK )which might limit the number of fights you see.

Agreed. The more-difficult issue will be finding a parking space. Beware that the ground around here is soaked. If you get here early, try a school or church parking lot and just walk a few blocks to intersect the parade.

Definitely remember seeing a couple of fights on Third Street after Spanish Town last year. All the redneck trash from Livingston, Central ect can't handle crowds or alcohol. Then that guy from Zachary punched that woman cop.

I'm just saying it's odd self-reflection to reach the point in life where you're asking for "family friendly"/non-alcohol sections after spending so much time avoiding/mocking such places. I'm certainly not ashamed to limit the exposer of my young kids to violence.
This is the map:

Do they cover up the images on the floats too?
Bringing my family to Southdowns tonight

Southdowns is much more kid friendly. Spanish Town is the only BR Mardi Gras parade that gets rowdy and rauchy by NOLA standards. The floats are mostly political satire and are often adorned with political figures, dildos, condoms, bras, fake breasts, sex dolls, ect. Spanish Town is the most fun of BR's parades, but it's certainly not the most family friendly.
