Weren't they testing some different heat shield materials on this launch?

Yes, but not that much different. And that wouldn't have likely been a factor yet, only on reentry.

This is V2 ship, so failure is an option. Just like V1 first 2 launches.

Ship has been pretty solid, interesting to lose it.

Lots of redesign being tested since this is the 1st flight of v2.0

It could be something that was redesigned which failed

Will probably have some fail safe program to destruct or burn up and crash in ocean

Yeah, have to imagine theres a self destruct mechanism.

Luckily we are having an administration change, so the FAA cannot drag out the investigation. Hopefully.

Yes the FTS splits it like a zipper and boom.

Yeah still though this is probably going to be a two month at minimum halt.

It does have a flight termination mechanism, and it's been used before.

Engines dropping out early isn't a good sign obviously.

Well... there was hope this would be the final water landing for Starship and they might do a catch attempt of Starship back at the the launch site in flight #8

Guess that's off the table

I would be happy if that is all, it was 2 months ago for flight 6.

Success isn't 100% linear..2/2 on booster catches is really freaking impressive. Even more impressive if there was some issue with the main ship yet the booster got back with zero issue.

Agreed. It's just now impossible for them to hit their 25 ship launch metric this year 16 days into the year

2/3 booster catches when it was in the flight plan.

Yeah, flight 9 at earliest. Especially if they catch Booster for a 3rd time.

Sorry I'll see my way out

SpaceX's system engineering approach allows them to navigate in and out of issues and design changes so rapidly.

Just an impressive way of rocketry.
