What are you basing this on? From what I've seen, yes there's a crater under the OLM, and I'm sure there's damage to other areas, but the OLM still looks like it held up well enough as does the tank farm. Even if there is some damage to the exterior covers of the tank farm, that's an easy fix and likely just cosmetic in nature. Of course I could be wrong also, but I don't think we can draw conclusions until we get more information.

Looks like from rewatching and good twitter detectives a HPU failed at MaxQ (HPU = Hydraulic Press Unit)
Seeing as the next SN's are all electric we Should get a better test flight.

All the flights will get better with each test. Today was completely normal and expected. Most people forget Falcon 9 failed on its 1st 3 attempts now it is the most reliable vehicle in history.

The pad, orbital launch mount, and tank farm are destroyed though - and that is where I will say that they failed. It’s going to take months to get that repaired. Maybe they planned on the pad, but I don’t think they expected that damage to the tank farm.
Tank farm is fine. There are some dents in the outer shell of the tanks but it is just a covering then 1.5m of insulation and nitrogen before you get to the real tank. OLM is also fine. The pad will need to be reworked but that is no big deal.

Jesus, Savanah on NBC's morning show is literally arguing with the expert that this was a huge failure for Musk.

Pretty much everyone in the media is stupid. Especially women in the media.

Per Biden's orders

The media need failures and bad things to make them relevant, so the create them.
Launch was a win. Just look at this

It’s a combination of Elon hate and lazy reporting. Anyone that has followed SpaceX knows that their development methods are completely different than everyone else’s, and are more successful.

They're still mad about Twitter, that's all.

The launch was obviously a failure because the vehicle was indeed lost. However, failure is always momentary. They’ll learn from this and try again later. This isn’t the end. Eventually that starship will fly.

Are they though? 21 years in existence, still only doing low earth orbit. In 15 years of existence nasa had been to the moon several times and launched a space station.

Mad props to that camera tripod on the right of the video. Takes the hurricane force winds and debris like a boss.

Why was it doing flips before exploding?

NASA had like 8% of the entire county’s GDP to work with.
Now NASA can’t even land on the moon without SpaceX.

Which is funny, because as of right now they've never even been to the moon or even lunar orbit.

That just set the bar high for dumbest thought

Landing a booster back on Earth to be reused is actually a bigger deal than landing on the moon from the standpoint of advancing space flight.
Moon was sexy as hell, but what SpaceX is doing now will actually lead to regular people colonizing other space objects.

What?
They were never going to bring the vehicle back. The entire plan for the vehicle was for it to live at the bottom of the ocean.
