Just curious, what’s the reasoning for not wanting attempt landing on land? Or is this just a step in the process and that’s coming in the near future?

Wonder if the integration tower must be finished first? That’s the biggest constraint I think. Also, wonder if they will fly a booster by itself first or go straight to stacked flight. Realistically I feel like it will be late summer before this happens. However, I’ve learned to never doubt SpaceX and Elon.

They just want the data ASAP. Will take longer to package together plans for putting it all together. Plus, less risk to people by doing orbital reentry over ocean and not Mexico/Texas.

The booster event timeline says touchdown instead of splashdown. Are they trying to land it on a drone ship?

Yep, plus they will likely replicate what they did with the Falcon 9. They will simulate or attempt a soft landing on the water, i.e., practice a landing.
Too much risk having orbital speed rocket go kaboom on the tank farm or over populated area. Lots of math that I don't understand makes other options unfeasible.

Elon better not drop a rocket on a drill ship or production platform.

What time today is this happening?

Texas to Hawaii in 90 minutes.

This reminds me that there is a SpaceX truck at Bollinger Fourchon. Wonder if they are retrofitting another oilfield boat

People have directly asked this to Elon on Twitter and he hasn’t responded. But most likely no. Their oil platforms mods are no where close to being ready.

Might be in support of their third drone ship under construction “A shortfall of gravitas.”
