Pecan island is an hour and 5 minutes from my house in 70508. I’ve made the drive about a dozen times this summer. That’s nothing to someone moving here from a decent size city like Houston.

Before that, there were some people taking the long way there

And if they could build a strecth connecting 167 to 35 bypassing downtown Abbeville, it would be even quciker

Crucially, Pecan Island is ~30 miles away from the nearest town and 50 miles from a major city.

Starship is insanely loud:
- At 5 miles out, my wife had to cover her ears
- At 12 miles, it sounds like a table saw (good BYU study on this)
- At 20 miles, it sounds like a vacuum cleaner (BYU study)
- At 30 miles out, dissipates even further, prob still noticeable but more distant

For comparison:
- Boca Chica: 5 miles from South Padre Island (major vacation hub). And 15 miles away from Brownsville (major city). Starship launches are quite disruptive to the city.

- Cape: 15 miles away from Titusville, Cocoa, Cape Canaveral. 50 miles from Orlando.

Eventually, particularly in Brownsville, community pushback will cap cadence. For SpaceX to get to 30+ launches a day, this is the way.

Lafayette and Youngsville keep being mentioned but they’re not super close by any means.

My guess is the big winner, as far as influx of of people, is going to be Acadia Parish.
Vermilion is notorious for high insurance rates.
Lafayette parish is notorious for ridiculously high property taxes, not to mention the congestion.
That leaves Acadia looking prime with easy access to the area via 13 and 35.
Lower taxes, insurance, and, for now, home values...

Traffic mitigation results that I searched on google AI mode

quote:

Key Roadway Priorities Under Pressure
While new routes are not being built entirely from scratch inside the city of Lafayette itself, local and state officials are prioritizing massive expansions to siphon heavy commercial and commuter traffic off city streets:

The Lafayette Regional Expressway (LRE): This proposed outer-loop bypass in Southwest Lafayette Parish has suddenly become a top priority. Officials like Parish Councilman John Guilbeau are pushing to fast-track its construction to provide direct, high-capacity flow from major highways toward the Vermilion Parish coast.

Interstate 49 Connector: The planned extension of I-49 through the heart of Lafayette is seeing renewed urgency. Splicing heavy commercial shipping traffic—such as equipment and logistics trucks heading to the spaceport—through existing city corridors is unsustainable without it.

Lafayette's Congestion Plan: Lafayette Mayor-President Monique Boulet confirmed that following the announcement, the city is immediately auditing its newly released congestion plan. Roads, traffic flows, and neighborhood bottlenecks are being re-mapped specifically to address the physical demands of thousands of construction workers and engineers commuting south.

Coastal Arteries (Vermilion Parish): While not in Lafayette proper, the rural roads connecting Lafayette to the coast (such as corridors leading down to Freshwater City Road and Pecan Island) will experience the most radical expansions. These two-lane coastal roads are expected to undergo severe reinforcement to bear the extreme weight of heavy equipment, structural components, and propellant trucks.

That’s my point. You can’t rely on the ferry plus like you said it’s the long way around for most people

The fact that it’s gonna take Space X port to get Lafayette to fix their roads is ridiculous. They should of been fixed already instead of piggy backing off of Vermilion Parish

Another thing Elon demanded was that Lafayette fix the red light sequence on Kaliste Saloom
