I'm 3 miles east of downtown and didn't get much.
Glad to hear it.
Frisco ISD is closed today bc the storm took out their entire network. Building where it was housed in downtown Frisco was damaged and network crashed. None of the schools have phones, cameras, Wi-Fi, monitoring systems, etc.

The trees down across roads in Frisco and Plano is crazy. Haven’t seen that many down before. Praying no one was killed in all the big rigs and vehicles blown over in the winds.

For the past few days, the Winfield NWR transmitter has been operating in a degraded status. From what we understand, your weather radio will still receive warnings from the Winfield transmitter, but there is a ton of static on the line. Technicians are currently troubleshooting.

Why is all that needed?
My school had none of that 20 years ago except a phone in the office

Here is a map of preliminary areas we will be investigating over the next couple of days for possible tornado damage from Thursday evening and Thursday night. Please share damage locations and pictures if you had damage yesterday or last night. #ARwx #LAwx #OKwx #TXwx

I believe it was EF2

Interestingly, the Significant Tornado Parameter (STP) numbers from the HRRR are pretty high across Alabama today. However, the thinking is that the warm nose aloft and very strong (too strong) shear will prevent updrafts from really getting going and rotating.

Clouds are moving out ahead of the line. SSE winds 25-30.

Man, the flash flood warnings that have come out on the north end of this system.

NWS Birmingham with an excellent mesoscale update explaining the odd setup across central/north-central Alabama today. It appears we’re narrowly avoiding a more significant tornado event, thanks to warm air advection aloft.

That's been the story for this whole setup. Pretty impressive that models, even the GFS, had it nailed well ahead of time. Think of it as a loaded gun with the firing pin removed. Goes to show how one parameter that is out of whack enough can greatly reduce the ceiling. It also shows how remarkable the truly high end events are when everything is perfect.

It might be too cloudy here to get a good view of the shelf cloud rolling in. I'll take a look in a bit when it is closer.

Why do schools need phones, cameras, Wi-Fi and monitoring systems?
No phones, cameras or monitoring systems means a shooter could walk into the school and
A) It may go unnoticed
B) No security alarm would sound
C) They couldn’t call the police
Or someone could have a medical emergency and the same issues would apply.
Not to mention that schools don’t spend millions of dollars supplying textbooks to students anymore since they are outdated so quickly and it’s more efficient to use online textbooks and materials. It also teaches the students to use online resources and software they will use in college and in the workforce.
